My tax code has been corrected, how will I receive refund on overpaid tax?

Hi all,
So my tax code was 1261L where the HMRC thought I had a £410 healthcare benefit that I don't have in my job of 2 years.
I'm therefore expecting £410*20% back x 2 years so about £160 - will HMRC adjust my tax for my March pay and do it through my employers payroll system? Or send a cheque?

TIA!

A sum like that will be most likely recovered through reduced PAYE. However if you get in touch they might agree to do a refund by bank transfer.

Thank you!

As there's only one month before the end of the financial year, you should get the full amount in your March pay so it's not worth requesting a refund. If it had been April, you would likely have got it back over 12 months.
For the future and for anyone else that doesn't know about it, if you log on to your Government Gateway account there is sometimes an option to have a lump sum refund to your bank account (this all has to be registered and set up beforehand).

Similar happened to me with regards to a company car they thought I had which I didn't but it was only 1 year. I got it on last month's payslip. Because this goes across the previous tax year you might need to apply for the refund.

Mine was a lot more, over £1,000

Thanks all. I think I'll get this year's refund through march's payroll.
And the previous year I need to apply for - this is what I've read anyway.

I'm excited about £160, I'd be thrilled with £1000 😂
