Are there any buy now pay later services for people that are not working (no judgement please!! Advice only I am a full time carer for dd who receives dla) my bed broke a while back so I have been sleeping on a broken bed and it’s obviously uncomfortable. I’m not able to get an Argos card or use Klarna or any other types of credit places. Is there anything I’m not thinking of? can’t get a budgeting loan as already paying one off. (I know I could save but it will take ages)

Wilkos do lay-by which is a weekly pay system and it's open to people with poor credit!

Protegemo1 · 03/03/2023 01:14

Have you tried talking to your local credit union? You would need to set up an account & then apply for a loan. www.citizensadvice.org.uk/debt-and-money/borrowing-money/types-of-borrowing/loans/credit-union-loans/

MintJulia · 03/03/2023 01:34

Better to avoid the cost altogether. Can you find a suitable bedframe on one of the free cycle sites, and use with your current mattress.

That would avoid you getting into debt and causing yourself stress.

Call your local council, and ask to speak to the home and money team.

They'll have a scheme under their local welfare provision policy where they can help with things like this, you do need to meet certain criteria, but it's worth a try in your circumstances

SpinningFloppa · 03/03/2023 10:48

Yes I only need the frame. No I tried sites like market place but it’s just full of brand new beds from those dodgy sellers I can’t find many second hand ones and they are not local and by the time I pay for a van it will cost about the same new! Just thinking if there is anything along the lines or klarna etc I can afford to pay it off just don’t want to sleep on a broken bed till I can afford a new one. I will check out lay-by thank you!

Try zilch they allow you to pay in 4 for anything. They give you an online Mastercard to use. Trust me, if they'll give me credit, they'll give ANYONE credit (not my fault, i was recently a victim of massive identity fraud) You'll need to pay the first 25% upfront but it spreads the remaining balance out over 4 payments and there's NO interest!

Ignore my previous post I've found it. However they do do a credit check. Even though it's only a soft one, they've just turned me down! Even though I was approved for Zilch 🤷🏼‍♀️ Really odd

In our area we have a donation based shop called Essential Needs. People donate furniture and those who are on a low income or receive benefits, can buy these items at a heavily reduced rate (once your circumstances have been proven). Things like bed frames are around £40. Worth a search? Also search for charity furniture shops

SpinningFloppa · 03/03/2023 11:07

Needs to be online really I am not able to travel out far with dd unfortunately.

I will take a look at zilch thank you.

When I split with ex I just put the mattress onto the floor for about a year until I could afford a bed.

thebestsellingshow · 03/03/2023 11:11

Can you contact your local Carers Team/Charity? They may have access to Carers grants or funding to help

Twinedpeaks · 03/03/2023 11:20

How much can you afford to pay off a week/month and when did your bed break?

Have you tried the mattress on the floor in the meantime?

TheIsleOfTheLost · 03/03/2023 14:41

We have a British heart foundation shop locally that sells second hand furniture and delivers.

SideshowAuntSallly · 03/03/2023 21:47

Do you have any local Facebook groups? In my area we have a couple where people give away unwanted items for free. Also local churches may be able to help

LondonQueen · 05/03/2023 15:30

Have you tried ebay, freecycle etc people selling cheap bed frames? Freecycle isn't great in my area because it's a small town but a quick search on ebay there are a few cheaper options if you set your preference to "used"

LondonQueen · 05/03/2023 15:31

Another option is local charity shops! Our British Heart Foundation has amazing furniture for really cheap prices, I donated a load of ours last year when I redid my bedroom.

SpinningFloppa · 05/03/2023 15:37

Thanks all I managed to get accepted for an Argos card. Didn’t think I would as was refused a few years back but tried again the other day and was accepted.

Why? You could have got one for free on your local Freebay/free cycle site Confused

AtomicBlondeRose · 05/03/2023 15:42

@titchy - OP explained that there aren’t any bed frames available locally, and any that are available would be the same price as a new one once she factored in having to get a van etc for it. Which I can easily believe - I’ve ended up buying new before because it had free, convenient delivery whereas the cheaper options (ikea or second hand) were very hard to get the actual item to my house for a reasonable cost.

She didn't explain that - there are often people on Freebay happy to deliver, plus others gave options for free stuff. She also could have just slept with mattress on floor till she'd saved. 🤷‍♀️

SpinningFloppa · 05/03/2023 15:52

Why would I want to? Not sure what your issues is but I am entitled to want a bed and can pay it off why do store cards exist otherwise? I don’t want to sleep on the floor. On my free cycle page you are not allowed to ask for delivery and my bed is king size so frames rarely come up for the size and I haven’t been able to find any local enough.

Last year I wanted to buy DS a high sleeper. I REALLY wanted to buy one second hand but every single one both needed to be dismantled (a huge job), and transported (so I would need to hire a van, find a free afternoon and someone to help me, and stand around in a stranger’s house taking apart an unfamiliar piece of furniture, and then reassembling it without instructions and hoping I hadn’t lost or broken any of the parts). All for about £100 less than the price of a new one - which would be delivered to my door at a time of my choosing, and where it would all be new, intact and covered by consumer rights. And the cost of the van would have wiped out most of that saving anyway.

I’m all for saving money but with large furniture it isn’t cost-effective unless you are, or know, a strong person with a van.

just apply for argos card and klarna everyday , that’s what a worker in argos told me to do as it refused me then after a few days of applying online everyday one day it just accepted me with a limit of £1,200

That means hard credit checks, multiple checks and refusals will decimate your credit score, what awful advice!
