I will need some help with writing a mandatory reconsideration letter, and will need an advocate if I have to go to a tribunal. I have no family close enough to help. Does anyone have any experience of the company PIPHelp.Org please? I’ve tried citizens advice and a local ‘advocacy’ place who can’t help. I can’t do this alone, I need someone in my corner.

You are aware that they are not a free service - they are going to charge you for this?

TuneInThisTimeNextWeek · 01/03/2023 16:34

Yes, I’m aware. I haven’t been able to find a free service that can help me. I’m open to suggestions, I absolutely cannot do it alone.

Has your council got a welfare rights team?

Clymene · 01/03/2023 16:41

Benefits and work .co. Uk have been recommended to me and they have lots of advice if you subscribe. Not sure if they do advocacy but have a look at their website.

hiredandsqueak · 01/03/2023 16:46

Benefits and work are recommended and I'm sure I've read that Fightback on Facebook are helpful as well.

Babyroobs · 01/03/2023 18:28

Citizens advice usually do help but possibly overwhelmed at present judging by the number of people currently claiming PIP and many likely being turned down. Do you have any local community law centre ?

TuneInThisTimeNextWeek · 01/03/2023 20:11

The Council Welfare team signpost people to CAB, who can’t help.

I don't have much experience of writing MR- I have only done one which was successful but the client was only 2 points short for daily living and 4 points short for mobility. It's really just a case of looking at where you think you should have scored points and addressing why you think you should get those points. It is also very helpful to try to get extra medical evidence such as physio reports, Consultants letters to back up why you think you should get the points. Did you score any points ?

Both of which charge for their service

@SouthCountryGirl I paid membership on Benefits and Work to get the PIP guides which were really useful and the forum on there is a good source of advice. Know nothing about Fightback although it's often recommended on forums I go on.
Tbf I suspect a lot of it is luck of the draw had two different experiences. For son who had a lifetime DLA award on transfer to PIP got two points, four points at MR and then HR daily living and mobility at Tribunal. Attended as his appointee no representation DWP had no case for their decision. At renewal award stood with an indefinite award without even a phone call.
For dd who is seemingly more able than ds on transfer to PIP from DLA went through painlessly with just a short phone call to check facts.

I currently have PIP, this was a reassessment, and I haven’t had the decision back yet. I was asked some questions unrelated to my health, and then only given the chance to say ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to other questions that were important. It was brutal, and I don’t have a lot of fight left in me.

This is the group who will be helping me : www.possabilitypeople.org.uk/

They don't charge

I used them for my PIP claim. I personally didn't begrudge paying for their services as they are a non-profit organisation and they have costs to run their service just like any other operation. They were absolutely brilliant for me and won my appeal without having to attend👏. My caseworker was Julie and she was so knowledgeable and lovely. Based on my experience they are worth every penny. They took my case on a no win, no fee basis, so it was a bit of no brainer for me. WE are all different, but I know I could never had won it without their help. They are definitely experts. At the end of the day it's up to people to make their own decision. But you imho you wont find anyone better than PIP Help. They were amazing for me. They are a caring organisation. Hope this helps others xx.

Edited

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of cost was it for them to handle your appeal?

Babyroobs · 12/03/2024 16:22

It's rubbish isn't it. We refer people to CAB for help with MR's as we don't have the staff to do it as there are so many people needing help. We also have a community law centre in our town - do you have anything similar?
there are just so many people trying to claim these benefits and being turned down, free organizations are just overwhelmed.
