How long do you have to be disabled to claim PIP

I had a really severe reaction to the Covid jab.

Its neatly 5 months. I can’t walk very far( have wheelchair) can’t drive any distance, absolutely exhausted all the time and struggle to prepare food.

Gp has just told me it takes as long as it takes, so l have no prognosis. But every day is a struggle for the family. I just can’t do anything it go anywhere.

You need to have had difficulties for 3 months and expect them to last another nine months.

VerityUnreasonble · 26/02/2023 21:26

You need to have had the difficulties for 3 months and expect them to last another 9 months for PiP (so basically it's for conditions lasting a year or more).

It sounds awful for you OP and I don't see any harm in applying.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 26/02/2023 21:28

I don’t know how long they are going to last. This is the problem. I have no specialist to refer to.

You don't need to be disabled to claim PIP. It's sufficient to need help and support with daily life

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 26/02/2023 21:58

Do l need to see a specialist before l try to apply?

Referral to Consultant would help but not essential. If your GP can back up what difficulties you ahve or you have things like OT/ Physio reports they are useful to send with the form .

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 26/02/2023 22:24

I have an OT visit when l got the wheelchair. I’ve been seeing an acupuncturist as l’ve not had much help from the NHS tbh. I think my GP said after 6 months it becomes Cfs. I have to wear sunglasses to look at screens. Sometimes l can’t look at them at all.

As Babyroobs says, at least 3 months prior to claim, and expected to last min of 9 months. Long covid is definitely considered and still unknown what long term effects are for most people. GP confirmation and O.T input is enough evidence. You are likely to get a short review period as atm there is no real info on long covid

When I broke my leg in February last year but wasn't eligible to continue receiving ESA after the end of September the assessor suggested I make a claim for PIP.

starpatch · 28/02/2023 16:55

I have worked for PIP in the past as an assessor. I would think it is worth applying. Will your GP write you a letter saying you have long covid?

OP was clear in her post, the poster does not have long covid, the poster has had a severe reaction caused by the Covid-19 vaccine. Apply for PIP and for vaccine damaged payment. Wishing you all the very best, going forward OP.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 28/02/2023 17:06

Yes, I’ve made an appointment with her.
