Easy way to register interest in partners property?

I live with my partner, our 1yr old and my older child from previous marriage.

The mortgage is in his name, we split the mortgage payments and all bills 50/50. I also contributed a lump sum towards an extension.

Is there an easy way to register my interest in the property, and how much does this cost?

Should we also have a trust agreement?

We agreed that my contributions will become my percentage of equity in the property, we started writing an agreement but have gotten bogged down in the details. Should the interest paid count towards my percentage, should the legal costs be included in the value of the house?

So 2 yrs on, we still haven’t finished it and it’s causing tension between us. I just want to get it done so we can stop discussing it!

Thanks, yes we plan to in a few years time, but its probably sensible to have something in place now as well.. just in case!

The easiest way would be a transfer of equity to get yourself added to the mortgage and the deeds. You will need to do a TOE application with the lender. Otherwise I guess it's speak to a solicitor in the first instance about a deed of trust to ring fence some of the equity for you. But is there enough equity in the property to cover what you've contributed?
