Slimming World Franchise - will any current or ex consultants "spill the beans"

So to cut a long story short I have lost 5st with SlimmingWorld

My consultant keeps going on to me about going to an "opportunities event" to discuss being a consultant myself as she is retiring later this year (hoping to move abroad) so my group will be "available" as it were!

I work 30 hours but some extra money would be good but she just won't be straight with me

I need to know

  • how much is the franchise? I've asked again and again she's very cagey about this!
  • what do you get for that? Eg are the boards and stationery included
  • do you have to buy the scales and the tablet??
  • how do the magazine/ hi fi bar/ recipe book sales work is that on commission?
  • out of the £5.95 weekly sub how much do you keep
  • who pays to hire the venue
  • the advertising flyers and adverts in the local press, are they paid for centrally by SlimmingWorld or do the consultants have to pay for those?

I just don't want to rock up at one of the recruitment events not knowing what I could be letting myself in for and I need to work out, based on average group numbers whether it's financially viable.

Any information would be great fellow Mumsnetters 🙏

@FiveShelties

Ah thabkyou;

£1500 to start up is more than I thought, I think I'll just have to go to an event with an open mind and see what they say.

I was a consultant for 6 years, and quit post covid after it seemed that number of members was more important than members safety.

Franchise was £1500, this includes your tablets and scales, but you don't own them.

Training is held in Derby, and you need to pay for travel and accommodations

You have to buy leaflets, newspaper adverts whenever there is a major promotion. If I remember correctly it was approx £40 for 3000 leaflets, and it is 3000 per group you are expected to deliver. By hand, especially on bank holidays.

Commission is 20p per box of hi fi bars, and commission on members fees depend on how many members you get through, can be as low as 25%

It is very hard to make a decent income, I had a full time wage from it, but I wasn't working other than this, and I ran 6 sessions a week.

I think there was an 'ask me anything' thread recently from a SW consultant. Let me check.

Are you ok?

I helped out a lot at SW when I attended class and also helped my club leader hand deliver leaflets many times. I don't think it's what it appears to be at all. It's all money money money pressure. Think of all the support your leader has given you. Think of how many people you could potentially be at the end of a phone for. If you had to do 6 classes as the previous poster mentioned, multiply that amount of "potential people to support" by 6 🤯. I'd opt for a simple evening job at a fixed hourly rate for much less hassle
