SAHM looking to make money: HELP!

SHNIBBYSMUM · 04/02/2023 15:08

Hello all, I’m desperate to make a little extra money on the side of being a full time parent to a nearly three year old. I’m unskilled and don’t seem to have much in the way of talent (or confidence apparently lol)

Does anyone have any little gems of advice or ideas for money making around being a SAHM.

What jobs have you done before?

RosesAndHellebores · 04/02/2023 15:11

Ironing?

Typing recorded transcripts?

Have a look in the Earn £10 a day thread

@SecretVictoria long line of unskilled jobs unfortunately. Mostly hospitality. Have tried my hand at selling gifts on Etsy ect. I am trained in beauty and HD brows but would need childcare to continue with anything like that.

Could you give the beauty a go? Try DC in nursery and maybe rent a chair in a salon? Or do mobile in the evenings (assuming you have DH).

TennisWithDeborah · 04/02/2023 15:37

You’re not unskilled. You’re trained in beauty techniques. And hospitality roles will have afforded you lots of transferable skills. Don’t underestimate yourself, OP.

Childminding

Once your DC turns three you’ll qualify for free childcare hours. Could you set up as self employed to do beauty/brows around that? Or even have a chat with some salons to see if they could accommodate those hours?

Pet sitting.

Are you in England? When does your 3yp qualify for their free hours? They get 15 per week (term time) regardless, then if you work a set number of hours per week this goes up to 30 hours.

Could you see if any local salons have some shifts?

bumpytrumpy · 06/02/2023 07:38

We're all full time parents. Even those who work.

You will have free childcare when child turns 3. 15 hours or 30 if you work.

What's your long term plan to support yourself & your child?

PaulHeymanHairline · 06/02/2023 07:47

My friend does HD brows and eyelashe extensions in her spare room. Most people work and so could you do some appointments in the evening and weekends when there might be someone to watch your kid?
Do you have a partner? There's lots of nhs admin roles at the moment and we recruit with no necessary admin experience, as it can all be learnt on the job. Then you could join the admin bank and do shifts as and when.

Matched betting. Takes a little time to figure out how it works, but once you have, it becomes very easy and completely flexible.
I can stop and start whenever I feel like it or need a bit extra (or indeed a lot extra during big sporting events!).

Ironing

Could you do something in the evening or weekend. Beauty treatments. I see somebody else suggested this. Either in a salon, clients home or your own home.
