Hi,

we are due to have our third baby, we currently have a girl and a boy.
my partner is disabled so has his own room, we currently receive a 3 bedroom lha rate. Will the third baby be entitled to their own bedroom or share with the other two?

thanks in advance

Generally under 2 share with parents, under 10's share mixed sex. Plenty of families of 5 are in 2 beds. I'm assuming your partner has the appropriate medical paperwork explaining why he can't share a room

Couples have to share.

Children under 10 have to share regardless of what sex they are.

Children 10 -15 have to share with a same sex siblings. So no your baby will have to share unless both your other children are 16 or older.

Is there a reason DP needs their own whole room? Do they use a hoist?

Could you not fit 2 single beds in his room if you can't share a bed?

Rightyhoo · 30/01/2023 15:47

Couples share. My DP’s managed to share when DF needed a hospital bed. If your DC have their own rooms then they have the smallest ones and you and DP share the biggest one.

No as under 11 they have to share a room. A newborn would be in your room for the first six months.

Thanks for the replies.

i don’t mean do we need to move house for a 4th bedroom, we currently receive help with our rent and get the 3 bed rate. I wasn’t sure if the lha rate would go up to the 4 bed rate

It sounds like you get an extra bedroom under couples unabled to share a room due to disability. If your different sex children are under 10 then they share a room. Your baby will be entitled to its own room as not expected to share with you or 2 other children. Potentially 4 bed rate I think.

'...baby will be entitled to its own room...'

😂

if you are staying in your 3 bed house they would still only pay the 3 bed rate. They wouldn’t increase the amount you pay if you are able to get the 4 bed rate

If she gets housing benefit or the housing element of universal credit the amount you get is capped at your rate of entitlement.

So she might be renting a three bed for £900 but the LA rate for a three bed might be £650 so she'll only get £650 towards rent. However, the 4 bed rate might be £850 so if she was entitled to 4 bed she'd receive £850. If that makes sense.

ELIGBLE FOR. Not 'entitled to'

Throwncrumbs · 03/02/2023 15:52

I’m disabled, can I have a bungalow, I think I’m entitled to one!
