My beloved rescue dog (mid size) is really getting on and we feel this may be her last year with us.

DH and I were having the difficult conversation about what we would like to do when she does go.

We would like to have her cremated and to get the ashes back.
(we’d like to scatter them eventually. )
does anyone have any knowledge on approximate costs?
just curious really about how much we will need to set aside.

This place near me has clear prices.
States medium dog £195. https://forgetmenottpc.co.uk/cremations/

I would expect in the region of £150-200 for individual cremation and return of ashes. (I work in a vet surgery). A cardboard scatter tube is cheaper than a wooden casket or urn so if your intention is to bury or scatter the ashes that’s what I would suggest you pick. That price is for collection from and return of ashes to a vet practice, it might cost more if you want collection from your home. You can usually take your pet directly to the crematorium yourself if there is a local one.

Thanks for responding. That’s useful to know about the cardboard scatter tube. I wouldn’t have even considered that.

I live in Somerset, mine cost £100. I got her back in a cardboard tube with a lovely scene of Bluebells on it.
I intend to have her ashes mixed with mine and scattered together when the time comes.

I’ve had to do this several times over recent years and I’m sure the last time it was around £250. That was for getting my cat cremated on her own so that we only had her ashes returned to us in a cardboard box. (Cheaper way is to have the pet cremated along with other pets.) There were more expensive options for different types of containers. I’m sure my vets practice take a fee for arranging everything so that also adds to the bill. Still it’s much easier than trying to bury your pet yourself - would not recommend that. I hope your dog is still going strong. Xxx

Not sure about dogs but I was quoted £180 to have my Guinea pig put to sleep and ashes returned this week so I would imagine a dog may be more…?

My dog (cocker spaniel) cost around £450 for euthanasia, individual cremation and ashes returned in a nice box.

Not sure where you are, but this place in Hampshire is fabulous:

I have (sadly) used them a number of times and the support and service you get is exactly the same as a human funeral director.

And they are still totally independent unlike many pet crematoriums who have recently been bought up by pet insurance companies.

Thanks everyone again.
Im in south Cambridgeshire

There is a place in N herts that’s not too far away.
I suppose that’s where I will take her eventually.
