Reward Credit Cards

If you have a reward CC would you recommend it and do you use the rewards?

I am looking into them but am finding it difficult to compare the various cash/points etc on offer. This is just to get something back on usual spending (no major unusual purchases coming up). I always pay it off in full so not too worried about the APR.

Any views on whether any are especially good would be really helpful. We do enjoy travel so I have thought about avios, though it's tricky to work out how much they are worth in practice and how good availability of reward flights is.

Thanks v much for any views

Yes thanks I have looked at that but it is tricky to know how valuable the non-cash options are

I have an American Express card that was 5% Cashback for the first 3months and 0.5% thereafter. I also have a Pulse mastercard which gives 0.25% cashback, for use in any place that doesn't accept American Express.

We use Amex too for regular spending and transfer what we spend on it, from our current account to a savings account so that the money is there to pay it off when the bill comes in.

Our cashback comes in about 2 weeks before xmas is usually around £200 so very handy. Plus the app offers extra cashback with certain companies, and does a regular local business promotion too.

I’ve got an Amex card too. It’s free and I usually get about £150 Cashback a year. You have to wait for the anniversary of getting your card to get the cash though.
I’ve got a refer a friend bonus thing if you want it.

I only use a cashback and cashback equivalent credit card (M&S).

No point collecting Avios as BA don't fly anywhere I want to go from any airports near where I live, plus if they're more expensive or there's restrictions on how you can use the points then it reduces the value and makes them tricky to use.

BarbaraofSeville · 16/01/2023 05:11

I don't bother with Amex as not everywhere takes them.

Not everywhere does, but the places you tend to do big spends do, supermarkets, petrol stations etc. I even pay the road tax on our vehicles with it, nice to get something back from HMRC!😁. As other posters said, the cashback is paid annually on the anniversary of taking out the card, the Pulse mastercard pays out monthly.

We use a Tesco clubcard for absolutely.spends aside from mortgage and bills
We spend about £25k a year on it as it takes a real hammering over the summer and xmas period
We get around £120 worth of points each year which we could either use off our shopping bill or can treble them for other rewards
Our annual rewards usually cover our 2 week eurotunnel trip in August and a day at a theme park
We do the bulk of our food shopping at Tesco though and usually fill up with fuel from there too

Another one to say Amex Platinum cashback. It's the best cashback card that there is and I have to say almost everywhere I use it now (admittedly in London, so perhaps this makes a difference from a smaller village for example) takes it. All the big places certainly do - supermarkets, clothes shops, chain takeaways/restaurants/pubs, TFL/National rail etc..

Amex BA platinum card if you like travelling.

We earned two club world seats to California return using this.

But it's become a bit of a hobby for DH to work it all out. There are lots of people who do this.

It absolutely not for credit as the APR is107%

We also have used recently a M&S 0% card and it got vouchers.
