To give a new employer P45 or P60?

I'm starting a new part time job- only 8 hrs per week, it will be my only job, minimum wage.
I didn't work since 2012.
Am I supposed to give them p60 or p45?
I asked them and they said none??
Tbh I am not even sure if I got any of them after all these years but I remember it's important.
I read somewhere they will tax me 20% if not correct tax code given even I will be earning only about £75 per week, so we'll under threshold.
Thank you

Your employer is correct. They should ask you to sign a new starter declaration that will given them the information they need to give you the correct tax code.

Spacie is right. A p45 from a previous year is useless - only a current year one can be used. Likewise any p60 is also useless. If your new employer doesn’t give a new starter checklist to complete, print one off yourself from HMRC website, fill it in and give it to the new employer when you start.

@user1497207191 thank you both.
if I won’t have the starter checklist, will they automatically put the highest tax code, even my earnings will be so low?
I was filling some form already a month ago but not sure if that was it.

In my experience no they won't. It's all much quicker now. Just fill in the new starters form and they will sort the rest. It is many, many years since emergency tax codes were needed in my experience. Try not to worry.

The default for anyone without a P45 or new starter checklist is BR, which means basic rate 20% tax off your wages.

Yiu will be asked if it's your first or only job in this tax year. You say yes. If the wrong tax code is given to you, you can amend it with a quick phone call or by going online. You can pre-empt any issues by setting up your own personal tax account now through the Government Gateway.

You'll most likely he put on the basic tax code of 1257L but it'll be wk1/mth1 so there's no cumulative basis for tax & you'll be taxed on what you've earned in that week/month - 8hrs a week at minimum wage is £76 so well under any tax or NI thresholds & I wouldn't expect you to pay any tax or NI.

HMRC will eventually send the correct code to your employer (most likely 1257L with no wk1/mth1) & any tax you've paid to that point will be refunded.
