My brother went bankrupt a good few years ago (I am guessing 6 give or take)
He is still unable to get any form of credit/credit cards. At the time he took the option (it was failure of business)there seemed no other way out and he was advised after a certain amount of time the slate would be clean and he would be able to start again building up a credit history. He has a fixed permannent job and is married (his wife has excellent credit) Has anyone got any advice? I'd really appreciate anything

well tbh if i was a lender i wouldnt want to len to someone who had been bankrupt either...

if it happens again then they loose their money!

what about capital one.... dont they lend to anyone?

what I'm looking into is whether there is a series of actions he can do to build up his credit ratings, ie apply for this card, this loan etc to build it up. Just wondered if anyone had experience of this they could share. Obviously I know it's going to be tough as lenders won't be falling over themselves! However the advice he received from the CAB at the time said that he would be clear after a few years. He had a business selling agricultural supplies and the business failed after the foot and mouth and mad cow crisis meant the farmers couldn't pay him in time to ease his cashflow, he didn't go around racking up bills he couldn't pay on store cards!
Anyone got experience?
Thanks

Hi,
Capitalone and Vanquis are a few companies to think of.(Although Vanquis has a high apr) I think anything credit wisewhere you have to disclose ur bankruptcy is going to have an effect on his credit score.
I went bankrupt nearly four years ago, two months ago i got accepted for a catalogue, but cannot get a credit card(only wanted it for emergency)
At least the catalogue companies report to the credit reference agencys that i have been paying on time, hence improving my credit rating(eventually)
Just to remember that all debts included in his bankruptcy will show on his credit files for 6 years after the date of bankruptcy
