Is lidl actually cheaper?

I have been trying to shop at Lidl a bit to save some pennies but I'm rubbish at remembering what things cost across supermarkets (or for more than about 5minutes anyway).

I noticed the other day something that was cheaper in asda - is lidl actually cheaper on the whole than asda?

I do quite like the small shop though!

Night - that is super organised. I would love to get to that point! I love their yoghurt.

I havent had a problem with fruit thankfully at our store (or maybe we just eat it too quick!)

It depends what you buy and there's no reason to stick to the same shop all the time, or buy the same things each time you shop.

Assuming you do top up shops and the shops are close by, instead of doing a weekly big shop and a small top up shop, you could instead buy two medium sized shops each week, one at Lidl and one at Asda, then you can buy what is cheaper in each shop and if there is anything you like in either shop, along with top up items like bread, milk and fruit. For example, I like Mackies crisps and DP likes Ritter Sports, and they only sell these in Lidl, so we buy them when we're in there.

I tend to spend a lot in Lidl because I go round buying loads of the special foreign food things and Deluxe branded items, that are more expensive than Asda value items, whereas if I go to Asda, they're often very good on bulk 'roll back' deals and we often get lots of those from there.

It depends what you buy as I find sainsbury's a lot more expensive than Morrisons. I used to shop at Lidl I like their app and the money off but don't find them any cheaper at the moment for me. I've started online shopping with Tesco so it's easier to monitor how much I'm spending. A few months ago at Lidl I would chuck anything in and with a full trolley it would still be <£100 but my last shop there was £150 buying roughly the same items. With an online shop I can still keep it around £100 by being more careful shopping for deals and swapping for own brands

as long as you can walk past the middle aisle without buying anything...

I don't find it cheaper.

Cheapest option for me personally is to do delivery/click and collect at Tesco, following a meal plan.

Then I only buy exactly what I need, no temptation etc

Just as easy in store. I meal plan, write a list then go shopping. I also get to check the reduced stuff and fill up the freezer!

I did a weekly shop for 6 of us. Compared my Tesco online basket with my Lidl cost. £75 shop would have been £79 in tesco. So yes it's cheaper but I do think Tesco lasts longer. For a few quid savings a week I think on balance I'd prefer it all delivered by Tesco

For some people. Not me. Because then I get swayed by promotions/buy stuff I don't need. My self discipline is awful.

It is cheaper, although I still need to go to Asda to top up the shopping. Sometimes I CBA going to both and end up in Asda. I stick to own products, in fact I prefer some Asda ones (like jams from Extra special range, they have sugar and Lidl's has glucose-fructose syrup). Also, I noticed that Lidl's fruit and veg don't last as long as Asda's. I like Lidl's loo roll, cleaning products, rye bread and cupboard items. For fresh products I prefer other shops. Also Lidl used to be great with their coupons, but they reduced it, so no point trying to reach spending target etc.
