Housing Association Fraud

I know of someone whose parents were allocated a social housing property about 30 years ago.

They are Polish immigrants and she was pregnant at the time. They have since kept the 3 bed property in central London (Victoria) while building up a property portfolio in Poland and subletting the third bedroom in London to various tenants over the years.

their son now lives there with his girlfriend saving up a deposit while his parents have moved back to Poland. He has £120k+ saved up.

this isn’t right!

does anyone know if housing association fraud differs from benefit fraud in that way? I want to report them but because it’s HA will the council listen?

Hello.

I'm asking this as a question, as I'm interested to see what people think.

I know a family who rent a housing association property very cheaply, at approximately a third of the private sector rate. I know this because the tenant told me how much they pay.

This family has a very new car, and told me of a holiday that cost them up of ten thousand.

They work sometimes, but not always, and one of their parents lives with them some of the year.

The council I am in has hundreds or probably thousands of very vulnerable families in hotels and other temporary accommodation, and is raising council tax once again, from a not so low starting point!

Wouldn't the council have powers to expect the family I discuss (mum and dad, two kids) to move to the private sector and make their own way in life?

They had kids in their early 20's instead of waiting until they had secure jobs and a deposit, and why should others pay for them to live a very comfy life, when we ourselves saved for 15 years to scrape onto the property ladder?

The couple make comments about 'rich people' but the reality is we aren't rich with interest rates at 6%, and they could get 'rich' if they stuck at a job for longer than 18 months. They change jobs and professions frequently so of course never get far up the pay scale.

Why should others fund this? Specially the cars and holidays..... Isn't it time the council toughened up and said they are capable of standing on their own two feet?
