Housing Benefit Full Review

Wordyrappinghood1 · 29/12/2022 16:02

Hi. I'm a single parent, and Housing Benefit requested a ‘full review’. If you don't report a drop in income, what happens?

I claim HB, I Tax Credits, and Child Tax Credits. My business suffered during the pandemic, but I did not report the lowered income.

My business eventually stalled, but I'll start again in January. Instead of claiming more, I accepted the lower income while trying to keep the business afloat but HB requested a full review before I could make improvements.

When they see I didn't report the change, I am unsure of what action they will take.

I would like to know what consequences I may face.

Thanks.

Yes you’re meant to report all changes

However if you haven’t fraudulently claim anything additional then it will simply be a full review with the only impact being an uplift in what you receive if transpires your not claiming enough.

But you really do need to be clear that you don’t have undeclared savings over £6k, no one moved in, correctly paid all tax due etc - as will all be explored

There are no consequences if claiming less than you are owed. If you were earning more than declared then there would be an issue. They may well have to review cases randomly to check there are no abnormalities, possibly including the ensure staff haven't been commiting widespread fraud etc.

Is your business viable as an income?

have they been underpaying you?

Soggydog · 29/12/2022 16:07

And do get on with reporting changes, including to tax credits to ensure you are getting what you should rather than struggle and potentially end up in debt.

Ursuladevine · 29/12/2022 16:08

I am somewhat baffled why you didn’t report the reduced income though. Very very straightforward and would have resulted In additional support during a time you were struggling

Ursuladevine · 29/12/2022 16:09

Had you previously been declaring less income? If so, in fairly recent (up to 5 years) then this may well be uncovered

Ursuladevine · 29/12/2022 16:12

Who have you been contacted by? Is it compliance?

If you actually want help Op, probably best to tell us the full truth and then we can advise.

Morning all

I’ve had a housing benefit/council tax review form sent also known as housing benefit intervention form.

may I ask what this is for. I’ve filled it out anyways online. But it’s scared me a little bit as it mentions about stopping housing Ben/council tax claim.

has anyone has this before

thanks.

Probably best to start your own thread about this R2023. It sounds to me that they are just checking you actually live at the address?

R2023 · 19/02/2023 21:42

It’s not actually giving me the option to make my own post sadly

starpatch · 20/02/2023 18:31

It should be at the top in blue it should say 'start new thread'. anyway I hope your housing benefit is OK
