If you are self employed in universal credit how are you finding it?

I am considering asking for extra hours at my main PAYE job, and giving up my self employed work. Motivation to do this would be the pension contributions in PAYE job but also that I have heard claiming universal credit if you have self employed earnings is complicated. I currently on tax credits so expecting to be moved over to universal credit next year. I am a bit reluctant to give up my self employed work though because I enjoy it. If you are self employed and on universal credit how are you finding it? Is it a pain?

By the way I had this other thread on self employment and universal credit but that was more about the specifics of getting ready for the switch www.mumsnet.com/talk/legal_money_matters/4549316-self-employment-and-moving-from-tax-credits-to-universal-credit

Bumping for you

Thanks oranges and lemons. I did hear on the radio today that citizens advice are seeing a lot of self employed women who are not getting much universal credit- I guess its fairly obvious that it would be better for me to increase my PAYE job- just will be more tiring as the self employed work was super flexible.

Well yes. If you can increase your PAYE and keep your S/E going on the side you might not even need UC. It's not meant to be a permanent income stream.

I claimed UC for about 8 months after my dd's dad left whilst being 50% self-employed. It wasn't difficult - I just reported my profit after expenses every month and UC already had in their system what I had earned that month from PAYE. Couldn't have been easier! What part have you heard is complicated?

Thanks Babbacrunch that's reassuring. I am gradually increasing my hours carben and claiming less, believe me I feel the pressure to do more hours. But I am not quite there where I could stop claiming altogether.
