Child Trust Fund - something else we'll end up paying back???

I got a letyter yesterday to say that the IR 'think' that ds will be entitled to a Child Trust Fund £250 voucher, then another one if you ewre receiveing the full amount of Child Tax Credit when your Child Benefit was first paid. So what happens when they pay out £500 into an account that cannot be touched until the child is 18 and they decide that they've buggered up the tax credits again and decide that we weren't entitled after all??? I would put money on them messing it up!!!

I asked about this a while back as I don't think we'll still be in the UK when our babe to be is born in a few weeks - I was told not to worry, still entitled to it as long as the 18 year old was born in the UK.

Silly I think.

Apparently every child born since 1 Sept 02 is entitled, as long as you're claiming child benefit (not tax credits" - it's all so complicated...

I sent off for info from Family Assurance who I have other plans with for my two. They sent me a really helpful guide to the CHild Trust Fund - the Government have (suprise, suprise) been less than helpful...

There's a number on the back - if you call it you should be able to get a copy free 0800 616695

might have to ring that and have a look. I just wondered as my letter says that we will get the extra £250 as we were on full child credit at the time we applied for child benefit - but knowing what the tax credit system is like they'll turn round in 2 years and say they overpaid us!! Was wondering if that would mean we'd then have to give back the extra £250 as well - although they'd have to wait til ds was 18 to get it from the bank lol

OMG - see what you mean! I don't know the answer - but give em a ring - they're always really helpful when I ring with stupid questions!
