Hello,

I don't want to pay for a Henry or the likes.

Please what is the best debit card (limited funds that the parent could hold say £100 on)

Thank you x

Many accounts now have a feature in the app where you can freeze a card but not cancel it.

So if it's likely 'whereabouts currently unknown but likely to be in a coat/bedroom/left it at Grandma's house' rather than 'dropped it on the bus and found by someone who's going to immediately spend as much as they can' you can stop it from being used without having to permanently cancel it and wait for a new one.

I wish Monzo did a kids banking account!

Hyper jar is great for this. I have complete control over the cards if I need it (pin reminders, spending notifications etc). It is definitely more suited to us than a normal bank account - they have those too

Isn't there a danger with a bank card that your teen will be taken by some hoodlum with a knife to a bank machine and forced to remove hundreds of pounds?

Our teenage son uses Revolut and he only keeps a maximum of £50 on it.

If your teen is regularly attacked by hoodlums with knives, then I suspect you have bigger problems.
Said hoodlum is more likely to take your DC's phone (and cash points aren't that prevalent in most areas anyway ...)

I take it you don't live in London 😀

Hyperjar. Free, app controlled for you and child. Instant transfers in case of a problem. Can be used online and everywhere MasterCard is accepted.normal bank debit is in the child's name and you won't be able to see what they spend where. My 16 year old is a bit of a loose cannon and I am not willing to let her loose with spending when I don't know what it is.
