Lets talk Health Insurance!

In my quest to save money, I'm trying to see if I can get a better deal on Health Insurance.

ATM we have family insurance through DH work. They pay for him and we pay the rest. Not sure if we're paying over the odds for the convnience though. He obviously has to pay tax on his bit, because its a benefit and we pay £57.27 per month for me & DD. The excess is £100 per person, per year, per illness, if that makes sense!

Does anyone have any words of wisdom or recommendations for other companies?

TIA.

I have absolutely no idea if that's a good deal or not, but it's worth having a shop around and actually doing the maths.

The other boring thing is that not all health insurance covers the same thing. If you can get away with less cover than you get throgh dh's work, you may well find you can get cheaper cover. Sorry, that's probably not much help!

Thanks for posting. Its not the sort of thing you can do easily on the internet, typically. I've put all my details into Money Supermarket, but they don't give you the quote online. They phone you back later. Now, is a convenient time for me to discuss it, not 3pm on the way to school, when no doubt, they will call me back!

How annoying. You could always try (not now obviously, when you will be picking up your dc from school!) calling a few companies at random. you won't get the same coverage that somewhere like money supermarket does, but you might at least get a vague idea of whether there are far cheaper deals out there. If you call five places and they give you rough estimates of twice what your DH currently pays, then it's probably safe to assume you won't get anything cheaper! It's time consuming and boring, but at least you can fit it in around your own free time - it's not completely urgent I guess, so maybe you could do one a day next week or something.

Generally speaking group schemes are cheaper as they tend to buy the cover in bulk. Additionally you have to consider the level of cover you currently have. You may get it cheaper but you would be covered for less. I would be suprised if you can get the same cover for less on all three of you. Bear in mind if you do have any existing conditions eg high blood pressure those conditions will be excluded from the start.
I think £57 odd is good value if you have a decent level of cover.
