Hi everyone
I am new to this forum so apologies if I am breaking any rules with this thread. I could really do with some advice.
Im posting on behalf of my wife today. We are in a same sex relationship - im not a man haha! 😅
She works in the NHS. She has a full time role where she is paid a yearly salary, and she also has a bank role, where she is paid extra for any additional hours she works outside of her normal working hours. Basically she can pick up extra shifts and work over time, and be paid seperately for this.
In her most recent pay for this month, she noticed her Tax code had been changed by HMRC (without warning) - and she has paid £300 extra tax!
She has called HMRC this morning to discuss, and they have acknowledged that there has been an error, and her tax code should not have been changed and that it will be changed back to the previous tax code. Which is great!
However, they have also said that they will not be refunding her the £300 until APRIL 2023!!! Meaning we are £300 short this month, right before christmas, and during th cost of living crisis - through no fault of our own. Just for working.
Has anyone else experienced this? Is there anything we can do to get this money back sooner? £300 is alot of money for us - and we both work exceptionally hard. My wife actually has 2 jobs working more than full time hours (sometimes 53 hours a week) in the NHS. Neither of us claim any benefits. I really feel a strong sense of injustice (hence why im posting on here).
If anyone can offer any advice with this we would be extremely greatful!
