Will I get any tax credits etc on a £20 100 salary?

If so - is it even worth applying for or is it automatic?

I hear so much about the hassle of overpayments that part of me thinks it's almost pointless to get them!

You will have to apply- its not automatic. If that is your total household income you will some tax credits i believe about £545 a year unless you have a bay under one then you get a baby element on top.

Taken from tax credits website:

"Who can claim

Anyone with children can claim Child Tax Credit if their income is no more than £58,175 a year (up to £66,350 if you have a child under one)."

I have had no problems as of yet but a lot of people do. Its essential that you check all correspondence from them. Always make sure the information they have on you is correct. Update then asap for any major changes- increase in wages, stop working etc. I always send everything to them recorded delivery and phone to make sure they have received. If ou get nay payments that you dont think you should have dont spend it. Inform them and out it in a savings account(so you can earn interest on it) until they ask for it back. If you know how much you should receive then there is not much chance of overpayment.

You can use entitledto.co.uk to work out how much you should recieve.
