The universal credit 10% increase question

Everypennyetc · 18/11/2022 02:07

I wonder if anyone's knows? My universal credit claim is about £820 (I am excluding the childcare element). After deductions I receive about £200.

Am I right that I will get the benefit of the full £80 increase each month? So £280.

You will get an £80 increase to your overall UC but deductions will still take place as they do now. It will depend if they decide to raise the work allowance also which will affect your award if you have kids. But no you won't see an £80 increase overall if you only receive £200 a month as that would be more like an almost 30% increase !

It won’t be £280
the overall amount will increase ie to £880 then deductions will happen as normal so potentially £220 but if your earnings increase your deductions will be higher

But my deductions won't change?

I wonder how they still implement it because yes, if they increase the claim amount those working and claiming will get a much greater percentage increase in real terms.

Deductions won't change unless your earnings increase or the work allowance or taper rates change but that would likely be announced in spring budget. Even then work allowance would only affect you if you get a work allowance - so if you have kids or have been deemed to have limited capability to work.

The increases will be to the elements I imagine so that unemployed people/ carers etc will benefit as well as they have no deductions for earnings.

Everypennyetc · 19/11/2022 14:57

I meant my deductions won't change hence my thinking it will be 30% increase for me. I posted when it occurred to me it wouldn't just be an extra £20 take home as I thought when it was first mentioned, but seemingly £80 a month and wondered if anyone knew otherwise. £200 to £280 was unexpected.

(Obviously if other things change too that, as always, will have an impact)

The amount of each element will increase such as Standard or Child.

There are a couple of types of claimants that won’t benefit. The first is those affected by the benefit cap.

The second is claimants getting transitional elements. This could be due to having a severe disability premium or managed migration. The extra 10% just reduces the transitional element.

They've announced that the benefit cap is going up, too.
