Hi

So after a massive car repair bill and having to pay the balance for ds school trip ( which we had forgot about) we are left with £347 to last us until 28th November! Thankfully all of the bills are paid so we only need to worry about food and general spends!

I need a plan as I don't want to use the credit card!

However shall you manage....

Undisclosedlocation · 11/11/2022 17:44

Is this a wind up? That is nowhere near being ‘short of money’

CuriousCatfish · 11/11/2022 17:44

Just bulk everything out with Lentils.

Sandwiches, yogurt, loo rolls ...Grin

Mostly food plus about £50 on fuel

That’s just under £150 a week for food for 2 adults and 2 children… honestly struggling to see the problem! How much do you normally spend on food? I don’t think you even need to buy yellow stickers or own brand labels with that budget. Just be sensible and don’t go wild on expensive alcohol or steak several days of the week.

Yes, also shampoo and shower gel. Just add lentils to the bottles and give them a good shake.

Works treat lol

I think people are being a bit unfair to OP here.

If she usually has 750 quid left after bills, then 350 is a lot less and fair enough she will be worrying about how to manage.

Hope you get it sorted OP, but you will be OK on that amount.

TabithaTittlemouse · 11/11/2022 17:53

28th November?

BarryK3nt · 11/11/2022 17:54

I think you’ll survive

TabithaTittlemouse · 11/11/2022 17:55

How much would you usually spend in just over two weeks?

walkso · 11/11/2022 17:56

🥴

No that’s just not the case, it’s incredibly unlikely that she normally spends £350 a week on food for 4 people, it’d be quite hard to do. I see your point if the budget was smaller but that’s actually a perfectly adequate amount of money to do a normal weekly shop for 2 adults and 2 kids.

If she has petrol to get, plus if they usually go out at the weekends and spend koney going to farms/zoos etc, plus shop at Waitrose...it soon adds up. That's all I'm saying.

But surely you don’t need the advice of others to not go to the zoo when you don’t have the spare cash to do so.
frankly if £150 per week is not enough to feed 2 adults and 2 children, the OP is overspending. Average spend on food is £86 per week per person according to Google. The OP seems concerned not to have enough at pretty much double that!
…….never mind that she presumably normally spends even more than double

Already removed the £50 petrol from the figure I used there. And she wouldn’t need advice on her to say don’t go to zoos if you normally do does she. £150 on food from Waitrose for a week for 2 adults and 2 kids is perfectly doable. They could easily cut to £100 a week for food and still have £50 for their weekend trips out. It’s not a dire situation. Hopefully this thread has pointed this out to the OP, it’s ok to relax here because she has enough money.

Ask your parents?

NoDairyNoProblem · 11/11/2022 18:10

16 days including 3 weekends is tight but doable @janeofyork.

Budget £347

Fuel £50

Food £200

Incidentals like school asking for cash, essential coffee, gift for kids party, emergency calpol/prescription, loo roll etc £47

mumda · 11/11/2022 18:11

No takeaways. No coffee outside of the house.

Sensible shopping and you can eat like kings almost.

That would leave a spare £50 still aswell, making it less tight

LindseyHoyleSpeaks · 11/11/2022 18:16

Is this a joke? How many are you trying to feed? Presuming all other bills went out at the start of the month, this is LOADS!

RuthW · 11/11/2022 18:18

Have you missed out the decimal point?

You will feast like kings on that amount.

kittensinthekitchen · 11/11/2022 18:19

Hold on whilst I paypal you some money Hmm🙄

ShowOfHands · 11/11/2022 18:24

Jesus. I have £90 to last the same amount of time due to unexpected bills. I'm cycling to work and eating store cupboard and freezer food (stuff made for just such a time as this). I'm not worried.
