A bit of a rant but Housing Benefit asking about DS1's wages AGAIN.

Our situation is that DH, myself and DS2 are on benefits due to DH's disability. We rent a 3 bedroomed house as DS1 (22yo)is still living with us. DS2 works but not a fantasic wage, take home is £205 per week.
We have had yet another form from the jobcentre/housing benefit asking for his wages and DH is getting narked. On all benefits forms it says we have a legal duty to inform them of any changes in our circumstances, which we do, even though DS1 would like a bit of privacy and doesn't like the council offices knowing what his wages are (he isn't claiming benefits). His main grumble is that everytime he gets a pay rise, the council drop our HB and we have to ask him for more money (keep) to keep the roof over our heads. If we could aford it we wouldn't be asking him for money so that he could save up for deposit on a house, but we can't.
What I would like to know is , can we tell them to stop bothering us as we have complied with the law in giving them notice of changes in circumstances, and to stop pestering our DS as he doesn't claim benefits?

Don't think so - as a member of the household he is expected by the HB people to contribute to the rent.

I can see its really annoying but he is presumably 'saving' money by living with you rather than renting/buying on his own?

im not a expert on this but as ds1 is an adult and living in the house that benefit is claimed for i would imagine that his wages are part of the household income, also why is ds2 on benfit if he is working and taking home £205 per week?

i think she meant to put DS1 instead of 2 in the second sentance.

meaning DS1 is the one getting £205 PW

aha! Disenchanted you are sooooo much cleverer(is that an actual word?!!!) than me!

Yes, you could tell them to stop bothering you, but they would stop your HB. It's a means tested benefit so the whole household's income is relevant. Otherwise your son could be living rent free while the taxpayer pays for his keep.

Yeh, I know, I agree with it, I just get it in the ear everytime it happens as even I don't know what DS1 is getting.
His overheads are such that he can't move out yet. If he could get a place closer to work his overheads would drop dramatically but he can't get a place because his (mostly) travel expenses are horrendoeus. Catch 22 situation.
Thanks for listening to me let off steam.
