Anybody buying stocks & shares?

I fancied a dabble on the markets, just a few hundred quid on half a dozen or so stocks/ shares.
I'm hoping someone can recommend me a good app to do so?
I downloaded eToro but everything is in dollars and I'm not finding it all that user friendly.
I am a novice (& do understand they can go down as well as up)

No, but I want to do so I’m hoping someone will post with ideas.

Freetrade would probably be the best place. Trading 212 is also a good app but offers leveraged trading which you need to avoid! Please only put in money you can afford to lose.

If you ever want to look at investing more seriously I would recommend reading "How to own the world" by Andrew Craig and listening to "The meaningful money personal finance podcast".

Maybe try interactive investor

ThistleSifter · 26/10/2022 19:32

Freetrade is good but has recently become paid (£4.99 per month I think) if you want to buy anything outside U.K. I have an account with them that from September with lots of US which I can only sell or hold, so I’m just holding and forgetting that account for now.

I’ve just opened a Trading 212 to use from now on but have not yet deposited funds - it’s come highly recommended though (my step brother uses it and works for hedge fund) and so far seems good; sends market updates etc.

We use interactive investor

Go on the LSE chat/forums to follow what people are doing and just be careful

I use an app called Plum. You can buy into managed funds or individual companies. I’ve also heard of a similar app called Chip, but haven’t tried it.

WuTangGran · 26/10/2022 20:12

Freetrade.

Arnaquer · 26/10/2022 20:19

I do through my Plum account. Not much but I quite enjoy it.

I use the trading 212 app it's great. I've only invested £10 and just invested in things I thought sounded interesting! One share I had went up suddenly I had invested about £5 and it went up to 40! If you want to sign up using my link we both get a free share, I think you can sign up using as little as £5. My friend used my discount code and I got a Burberry share for nothing. I haven't put any more in just used what I've earned and reinvested a lot have gone down in value but then the economy isn't great right now so hopefully they'll go back up! Definitely don't invest more than you can afford!

I'm new too and went with Freetrade. Very easy to use. So far I'm up 1/3rd.

You have made a 30% profit? @vivainsomnia

Best to do it within a Stocks and shares ISA.
I use Hargreaves Landsdown for my SIPP and ISA.

Are you going to be ‘Trading’ or investing for the future?
If the latter, a Global tracker with low charges is hard to beat.
