Ford Fiesta - will I ever be able to sell it now?

I know nobody will be able to say for certain but would love your advice and thoughts. I have a Ford Fiesta, and they’re now becoming discontinued. I have about 5 months left on finance and then I was going to sell it next year (last week before this news of this discontinuation, webuyanycar were quoting £10k).

the money would be massively helpful to us next year.

do you think with this news of it being discontinued by Ford I will now struggle to sell it? Is there any chance the opposite would happen and they would become more valuable?!

hoping we haven’t lost money :(

I can't see it being an issue in the slightest. People were buying Ford Escorts happily for years after they went. What is it that concerns you? Plenty of people will still want that size car, and a Fiesta has always been a safe bet.

For now second hand cars are holding their value incredibly well, but that's because of the shortage of new cars due to microchip supply issues, so it probably won't continue long term. But I wouldn't be worried about selling it at all.

Wibble128 · 26/10/2022 08:53

The market for second hand cars is very strong at the moment. If the car is in reasonable to good condition you should have no problem in selling, either privately or in part exchange for another.

Benjispruce4 · 26/10/2022 08:55

I guess you’re worried about the availability of parts affecting a buyer. I think with Fords, the parts are easily sourced.

RedToothBrush · 26/10/2022 08:57

Good god don't worry.

Theres issues with new car production atm still.

It means that second hand cars are retaining value more than unusual. Provided its not diesel.

Friends who have sold cars recently, have been stunned at how much they've got for their trade ins. I know DH's car has barely depreciated comparatively.

vodkaredbullgirl · 26/10/2022 08:59

Just because they are stopping making them, doesn't mean you can't sell your car.

FuckabethFuckor · 26/10/2022 08:59

It’ll be fine. My car is from a brand that doesn’t even exist in the UK any more, and it’s still holding its value.

Fiesta was the UK’s best-selling car for many years. And Ford itself isn’t going anywhere. Look after it and you should realise a good chunk of its value still.

Unlikely it’ll go significantly up in value though — Fiestas are too common. (Unless it’s an ST, those will become very in-demand I reckon.)

Wbeezer · 26/10/2022 08:59

Probably become more valuable especially if it's one of the models that boy racers like to modify. DS1 recently spent £3.5K on a 20 year old Fiesta! The price of second hand cars is high just now, I don't think it will you'll have a problem.
We will all be affected when they eventually ban cars that run on Diesel and petrol but

KitKat1985 · 26/10/2022 09:00

I doubt you will have any issues at all. They are known as good cars, and there will be thousands of spare parts around for ages yet due to the sheer amount of Fiestas out there.

madnesss · 26/10/2022 09:00

This is actually a really weird train of thought. There are lots of second hand cars on the road/market that have been discontinued. What makes you think that you won't be able to sell the car?

True. Parts availability for Escorts is still good, and Ford stopped making those in the 1990s.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 26/10/2022 09:03

They've been the most popular car in the world for 40 years or something! Tutu are not suddenly going to stop bring popular just because Ford are going to stop making them, I order to concentrate on EVs. Manufacturers tend to make spare parts for long after they have ceased production of a model if that is your concern.

54isanopendoor · 26/10/2022 17:02

My 1998 Fiesta just failed it's MOT.
the garage said it was 'impossible to get 2nd hand parts & hard to get new ones'
I don't think that's true so I am sure that you will be able to sell your modern one

QuebecBagnet · 26/10/2022 18:02

The opposite.

LindyLou2020 · 26/10/2022 18:15

@Birch01
I'm looking to change my car next year. We've had several Fiestas in the family over the years, and this will be one model of car that I will definitely be looking around for.
Buyers will be queueing around the block to take it off your hands! 😃

blippi123 · 26/10/2022 18:25

I take it you aren't aware that there's thousands of cars out there that are no longer made?

woodhill · 26/10/2022 18:29

I think people will still want them. Lovely cars

Fizzadora · 26/10/2022 18:31

I would hang on to it if I were you. It will be worth a fortune in a few years.

Pharos · 26/10/2022 19:04

As long as it’s a 1.2+ you’re laughing- they’re some of the most desirable small 2nd hand cars and fly out of garages.

OdkinsBodkins · 28/10/2022 23:03

Love a well-kept Ford Fiesta, as will many people and used car prices are higher than usual at the moment. And if you like it, keep driving it. One careful owner is great. Keep it in good nick, service it etc. Although they have changed a lot over the years obviously, I am nostalgic for my FFs in the first few years I was driving.

LondonQueen · 29/10/2022 23:30

It's unlikely to go up in value but there are a lot of unhappy people that they have discontinued the fiestas! People will be snapping them up for years to come.

Bearthepooh · 06/11/2022 21:04

I've just bought one 2nd hand. No concern on my part.

So you need money but you decided to not only finance a car but one that is worth north of 10k? And then you decide that you are going to sell it at webuyanycar where you will get the minimum amount? hm

Badbadbunny · 25/11/2022 10:24

You can get top values for used cars with low mileage, full service history in top condition. Even more so at the moment with the supply problems of new cars. The Fiesta is one of the most popular cars of recent years, so it'll be in high demand at each "stage" of it's life, even down to "end of life" when it'll be sought after by boy-racers and JustEat delivery drivers! There'll be motor garages and wholesalers with lots of parts in their storerooms, and no doubt Ford will continue to supply spare parts for a few years, so parts won't be a problem for about a decade or so. Even once "new" parts are hard to get, the scrapyards will have lots of Fiestas so you'll be able to source used parts for another decade or so. So unlikely to be too many problems getting spare parts for the next 20 years or so, which, of course, is about the maximum life of a new car bought today (average life of a new car is currently 13 years!). After 20 years, they'll be "classic" and parts will get harder to find, together with difficulties finding a mechanic/garage with the diagnostic tools/experience etc. But short term, in the next year or two, the used car market in Fiestas won't change at all, maybe actually more demand if Ford don't produce a comparable replacement as people will keep hold of theirs for longer, reducing supply, and therefore increasing demand and prices.
