Anyone been fined by Pastdue credit solutions for not paying road tax?

I recently moved, and it appears that i've not notified the DVLA of a change of address. As a result, reminders of car tax have not gone to my new address. I received a letter from a credit agency today stating that I owe them £80 in fines. Am I right in thinking it's just pay or appeal the fine?
TIA

The penalty is either £1,000 or five times the amount of tax chargeable, whichever is greater. Vehicle may be clamped and additional fees may apply

Presumably you’ve been driving the car? It looks like they are just looking at charging your for being the registered keeper of an untaxed vehicle. I think I would pay before they started looking into finding me on traffic cams and proving I was using an untaxed vehicle on a public road! I am very risk adverse though so accept that’s just me.

On what grounds would you contemplate appealing though? Not notifying DVLA of a change of address is an offence of its own.

You are required to update your address if you have moved permanently. Drivers are required by law to let the DVLA know if they change their name or address. If a driver fails to notify the DVLA of changes they could face a fine of up to £1000

I would definitely just pay the £80!

Are you sure it's genuine?

I would have thought fines would come from the DVLA, not some credit company.

Past Due Credit won't fine you they are a debt collection agency. DVLA may have fined you and then passed the debt to them to collect. Although in that case £80 is an odd amount as they collect the debt and add on collection charges so £80 seems low.

Check to see if you still paid the car tax, mine was on D/D.

If it had been paid no dent collection agency would have been instructed. The OP sees to accept she hasnt paid

You prabably will have to suck itup and remember in future

Have you checked it's genuine? Have you not had an letters from the DVLA? Have you been to your old address to ask for your post? £80 is a really odd amount. I'd ring the DVLA to check it's legitimate first to be honest.
