Can I cancel sofa after waiting 10 months?

Ordered a fancy leather recliner sofa from DFS before realising how inflexible their customer 'relationship' is. Was ordered mid Feb, we knew it would be some weeks but no sign of the sofa yet and estimated delivery date has been extended for the nth time.

We would have walked away by now but took out a 0% finance contract intending to pay by installments.this obviously hasn't started given we have no sofa.

How can we use the law to walk away from this? Dfs won't let us go and we just need a new sofa before the kids grow up and leave home.

I'm pretty sure under the consumer rights act you have the right to have stuff delivered within a reasonable period. What was the initial agreed delivery date? A good rule of thumb would be double it and anything beyond that date would be unreasonable.

I would contact them again saying they are breaching your consumer rights and you'd like to either cancel the order or you want X discount and a fixed delivery date.

Initial date was June. Yeah was wondering what constituted a 'reasonable' time frame. DFS are such sods though I think we will have a fight on our hands and wondered what I could say if they refuse to offer a solution even after I've cited the law at them.

The rules are different for online and in store purchases.

Looking at the terms and conditions you can open up a case for dispute resolution with the furniture ombudsman.

The email address you want is [email protected]

If email saying you wish to refer the case on and they should send you the details. Send an email saying failed to deliver within reasonable time period, detail all changes to proposed deliver date. They should cancel.

Ooh thanks @bloodyeverlastinghell that looks useful

Unfortunately it wasn't an online order.

Lesson learned, will stick with ikea from now on!
