Where does my partner stand?

My partner went into business with a 'friend' earlier this year. My partner had no money to start with but his friend said he had the finances to start. So all of this year, it was my partner only doing the work and he wasn't bringing in enough money to cover the rent of the unit and the loan his 'business partner' had taken out. His friend was too busy with his other business to help out. My partner then decided he needed to leave and get a full time job as he wasn't able to pay bills or mortgage etc and before discussing this with his business partner he found out he wasn't an owner on the business. Just his 'friend'. Now he is being threatened to be taken to court as he never paid his half of the rent and the 'friend' is even threatening me to steal my car etc. Where does my partner stand with this? Is he classed as an employee if he was working for a business he didn't own? Does he have a leg to stand on if taken to court?

What, if anything, has he signed?
You don’t have to be a Co-owner of a business to have signed a rental agreement.
How did your boyfriend only just find out he wasn’t co-owner - why didn’t he know from the start?
He may owe nothing, or a lot.

As above, what did he sign for? He can only be forced to pay anything he has signed for? If your car is in your name I doubt they could touch it. If it’s in his name but you drive it and he has signed agreements or leases presumably that’s a different kettle of fish.

He signed the rent agreement and he knows he owes money on that, but that's to his landlord. His business partner is threatening him with court and a CCJ for money he owes him when he covered the rent as my partner didn't have the money too, where does he stand on finances from the business point of view? Is he classed as an employee and should the owner of the business have made sure he was paid? As he didn't work elsewhere, the work he did for the business what his only form of making money and it wasn't enough to cover his half of the rent.

He didn't know because he is stupidly naive and didn't think to even check, just trusted the 'friend'

The car is also in my name, he's isn't taking it as a form of payment. They are just threats as he's threatened to 'sort my partner out' as in beat him up.. he came to my house angry and making threats whilst it was just me and my baby home

If he comes to you're house again making threats, call the police!
