Hi,

If you have an iPhone with no password, and lose it can you still claim for a lost iPhone or because your password is not on there does that affect it? Does anyone know?

My friend has lost her phone had no password and now who ever found it has turned off find my iPhone, I was gonna claim on my insurance for her but not sure because she had no password can I still ?

Thanks. Grin

How can you claim on your insurance for your friend?

Glitteratitar · 25/09/2022 02:17

I think you should be more concerned about your plan to commit insurance fraud.

Newmammaof1 · 25/09/2022 02:19

I wanted to add her to my content insurance. I thought i could do that.

Wasn't aware I couldn't. Now I know.

I haven't lived her long, wasn't aware.

Thank you.

  1. You can't take out contents insurance and then claim for something which was lost before the policy started.
  1. Your friend would need her own contents insurance
  1. Why would you even consider this? It's fraudulent and your premiums would probably increase significantly.

Do you live together? If not, you can’t claim items for others on your contents insurance.

Even of you could, insurance companies don't cover events that happen before you're covered by a policy...

Newmammaof1 · 25/09/2022 02:42

@Glitteratitar Yes she's staying with me, that's why I thought I could.

@SpaghettiSquash I didn't know it was fraudulent, I wasn't trying to scam anyone, just help a friend.

Thanks for your advice

Does she actually live with you? Is it her registered address? What type of contents policy do you have?

Usually contents insurance is just for family, unless you happen to have one for a house share and she’s named on it. You can’t claim for people who just happen to be staying with you temporarily.

Newmammaof1 · 25/09/2022 02:50

@Glitteratitar no it's just temporary, so with all the information you've given me, I don't think I can. I just wanted to help a friend, she was concerned because she hasn't had a password just wanted to know if that void's insurance as no password.

But I don't think I'll be able to!

Thanks

Good move - I know you want to help a friend but it shouldn’t be at the risk of committing a crime yourself.

OneFrenchEgg · 25/09/2022 03:51

She might be able to claim on hers for items lost away from home - she'd need a crime number I think and to check her excess
