Earning extra money for Christmas - BodyShop@Home

holidaynightmare · 23/09/2022 14:56

I went to a fundraiser last week and the Bodyshop @ home rep was a girl I'd been to school with years back

I ordered a couple of bits and we were chatting - anyway she messaged me last night and asked if I wanted to join her team to do some parties to earn extra money for Christmas 🎅

I'm guessing she's messaged more than one person but just interested in how people found it???

I did Jamie Oliver at home for about a year and it was a right nightmare not to be repeated!!!

Is bodyshop a nightmare, are all these things the same?????

How much are the set up costs etc?? And how much money do you make????

It’s MLM (aka a Pyramid scheme) and the vast majority of people lose money doing it, as well as quite a few friends

Cue the Bots turning up to tell you how great it is ..........

MomwasCasual · 23/09/2022 14:58

As with all MLMs, your question should be 'how much money (and how many friends) will I LOSE?'

Sarahconnor1 · 23/09/2022 14:58

It's a MLM now approach with caution

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 23/09/2022 14:58

Yes they are all as bad as each other, no you won't make money and she's not your friend!!

Namechangenumber23 · 23/09/2022 15:00

MLM. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.

holidaynightmare · 23/09/2022 15:00

I mean the Jamie Oliver at Home stuff was slightly different they used to send me details as people booked their parties centrally and I just said if I was available and they basically sent me to the parties but some I barely covered my fuel costs as it was quite a large area to cover, so not really selling to friends

Do the bodyshop expect you to do your own marketing etc??? And drum up your own parties?
This is what I'm interested in, how does it all work?

It's time and effort for very little gain. The market's saturated, people are cutting back so customers will be thin on the ground. You would need to be determined to the point of rudeness to rope in friends and family to host parties, and they'll make excuses before avoiding you. And all that's in addition to the morality of MLM businesses.

All your own marketing, plugging for sales, wrapping, delivering. For how much an hour? You need to consider that. Do you love the products? Tax returns, collecting money all for little return!

holidaynightmare · 23/09/2022 15:21

Your all talking me out of it 😂

Good, you will 100% lose money.

dementedpixie · 25/09/2022 18:54

You can order online for Avon yourself so why would you order through someone else? Doesn't make sense

dementedpixie · 25/09/2022 18:56

Oops it's not Avon. Why did I think it was??Blush

Trees6 · 25/09/2022 19:07

You’ll lose money (or maybe make a little) and your friends will think you’re a bit of a nuisance.

There’s plenty of paid work out there currently OP, you should find something that suits.

Tbf, this does apply to the Body Shop too! :)

PigsInBlanketyBlankets · 25/09/2022 19:48

I run a mile from friends who are involved in MLM

AlwaysFoldingWashing · 25/09/2022 19:48

I think there's also a big initial outlay to buy a 'kit' to sell? As someone else said, you can do it all online yourself which will be quicker, easier and may also open up different 'online only' offers. Also agree, it's annoying when people contact you and try to get you to buy things via social media. I've restricted and silenced quite a few accounts on my social media for this reason so be prepared to lose some online contacts too

AquaticSewingMachine · 25/09/2022 19:53

Ask yourself why someone who (supposedly) makes money selling Body Shop products to people would be so keen to recruit you to sell the same products to some of the same people and thus dilute her own market.

It's a MLM pyramid scheme. You aren't the salesperson; you're the sucker.

myusernamewastakenbyme · 25/09/2022 20:29

For the love of god don't do it...you will turn into a 'hun' who can only post inspirational quotes and crap about being a 'boss babe'...Your friends will be cringing behind your back and people will start avoiding you in case you try to rope them into becoming a 'consultant' aswell.

holidaynightmare · 26/09/2022 14:12

I'm out don't worry I've said no

I think a lot of these things have had their day.

Back in the 90s I went to a few body shop parties and Tupperware and Avon, but these days you can order everything online yourself at your leisure and there is simply no need to order through someone else.

My mum used to be an Avon lady and did it for 25 years but gave it up just before covid as the amount of customers had dwindled to nothing. Everyone just ordered online, even her most loyal customers.

Glad you've turned it down. Think it would just cause a lot of hassle to make a few pennies.
