Is there anywhere I can open a join account with DH but we don't both have to be there ?

We desperately need a joint account, am sick to the back teeth of transferring money between accounts etc.
Trouble is DH works Monday-Saturday so we would never get to a branch together.

Is there anywhere that will open a joint account where we don't both have to be present to open it ?

with most banks on the internet.

How about trying first direct? As they don't have any branches, can't see how you could both need to be anywhere!

(Just beware that you have to deposit a certain amount every month - I think it's £1500 - or have several accounts with them otherwise there's a monthly charge.)

We've got a joint Cahoot account. Is internet only, although you can pay money in at the Post Office. Works fine and is convenient.

Me and dp opened a joint account at hsbc, where we both already had accounts, and we did it online. He needed to go in and sign something, but I never did. Whoops. I can still spend on the account though!

I'm sure most banks. We've got joint RBS accounts and I can't remember ever having to go the bank together to set them up.

How do internet only accounts work ? Can I still withdraw cash from them ?

Do you both bank with the same bank?
Maybe it might be worth phoning or checking online or maybe emailing them and explain to them that your husband works long hours 6 days a week and you cant go to the bank at the same time, and see what there suggestion to you may be.

I have done a search on google but cant find anything that may be relavent for you!

FoghornLeghorn · 24/01/2008 10:28

I have just applied via HSBC website. I can't believe I have banked with them for the last 8 years and had no idea I could do that online ! DER!!

Fingers crossed it comes back as approved now.

Thanks for the advice

Incase you don't get the one you apllied for I opened a joint account for me and dh at Nationwide and he wasn't there. Was a few years ago but IIRC all I had to do was take in his passport. He also works Mon-fri and sat mornings. Such a PITA
