Bank card for child parents can keep tabs on?

I think budgeting is an important skill to learn and have recently been thinking about setting up a bank card for our DS 8 where we can pay in his pocket money (Currently being discussed as he's not had it before) and since most things nowadays are done through banking we would like to do it that way.
Me and DP think it would be good practice for him as well as it might help him realize that the numbers on the screen/card don't just magically appear and need managing too.

Does anyone use a service/bank like this and is there one you would recommend using?

We use revolut for this, it’s like a prepayment card rather than a savings account but does the trick

Can't you just use a normal child account? You'll be able to log in and check transactions anyway.
Lloyd's bank allows children to have a contactless debit card from 11. Parents can block it if it's not used sensibly.

We’ve had both Nimbl and Osper. Both good, prefer Nimbl in terms of ease of use.

OP’s DC is only 8. I think 11 is minimum age across all mainstream banks for a child account with debit card. Both mine transferred from Osper/Nimbl at 11, but those couple of years of ‘training’ were useful, as there’s more parental oversight if you need it.

He's 8 @megletthesecond and I don't think he can open an account with a bank like halifax etc yet.

Thank you for the suggestions so far I will definitely have a look.

I have DC aged 12 and 9. They both have cards from HyperJar. It works really well.

Boomboom22 · 15/09/2022 18:09

Hyoeejar is great and you don't need the kids app. Set up weekly payments and they have their own cards. You, or they of they do get the kids app, can set up other jars not linked to the card for saving.
All free. It's great, no idea why the others charge for what seems to ve the same or worse!

Boomboom22 · 15/09/2022 18:09

Hyperjar!

c00k1e · 15/09/2022 18:14

Definately hyper jar

sparklins · 15/09/2022 18:53

Oooh I didn't realize there was a free one! Thank you.
