Hi, I wonder if you could give me some advice - a friend called me today and asked me if I could ask dh something re a friend of his, but dh is a solicitor not a barrister and I think you may know the answer (think we may too!)
Essentially this bloke has done a cpe and wants to do his bar finals or whatever they are called these days.
However, he spent a year in prison for armed robbery a long time ago (spent) and also has a conviction for theft and a couple of drink drivings. Now I know the Law Soc wouldn't let him in as a solicitor, but I don't know whether the Bar Council have similar rules. (my first q was why do a CPE then think about it, but there you go!) I know that the law soc won't take anyone with dishonesty convictions due to the money handling nature of the work, but barristers don't have this same fiscal relationship with their clients do they?
Any info gratefully received. I have looked it up and it just says
"Convicted Persons: An applicant who has been convicted of a relevant criminal offence may be refused admission if the circumstances in the opinion of the Masters of the Bench are such as to make his admission undesirable."
