What do you do with your old credit cards?

Do you cut them up or keep them somewhere safe.

I now have two cards that Ive paid off so are empty.
Plus one new card that I will keep on me for purchases as its 0%.

What should I do with the old one. I was going to keep them in my banking file so that should I ever need an emergency pile of money its there. Obviously would not spend on them normally as they would be tucked away in the house.

Credit agencies keep a record of how much credit you have access to, and will eventually say no to new applications if you have too much, so if you are not going to use them, cancel the agreement with the company and return or cut up the card.
