At 53 I thought I'd be comfortable by now but unfortunately Im struggling to make ends meet. Does anyone have any legitimate ways to earn some extra cash from home? Seems like its all you see online but how do you start and whats best to try?

Any help is much appreciated

Some ideas could be:

  • Take a lodger
  • Become a part-time babysitter or childminder (this could work really well if you live near a primary school wfh already and are allowed to flex your hours; a lot of mums are crying out for someone to do the breakfast slot or a few hours after school, or help mind kids while they work a weekend or late shift).
Ruby0901 · 24/08/2022 16:21

That might be an option actually although dont you have to be registered or something?

If you want to look after children under 8yo for more than two hours a day then yes you need to register to become a childminder and there are significant start up costs (registration fee, ccb check, training fee, first aid course, insurance etc).

If you look after children for only 2 hours a day eg 3.30pm to 5.30pm then you are ok. You can also look after children as a babysitter between 6pm and 2am without being registered.

wow thanks, I didnt know that. Definitely worth looking into. What do you think would be a fair price per hour?

Do you currently work? What qualifications and experience do you have? Could you take on more hours?

absolutelyknackeredcow · 25/08/2022 10:18

Do you work
OP - is this something to fit round a normal job?

Ruby0901 · 25/08/2022 10:42

I work nights so I was looking for something I could fit around that. The afternoon childminding might be an option after school. Ideally I was wondering if anyone had tried any of these online "side hustles" that you see on social media. If so which works best. I was thinking of trying matched betting. If anyone has done it would be good to know how you got on

If you want to try survey's do Prolific. Takes a bit of time to fill out initial screening form but then every survey available your pre screened for ... only limitation is what device you use. If you use a tablet and desktop in addition to your phone there's more.

They pay decent, quick (£5 threshold I think) and immediate to PayPal. I've done £95 so far this year. They are also more interesting then the usual talk about your shopping ones, often from uni students.

Get every loyalty app on your phone as you can and look at receipt scanning apps like Shoppix

I use around 5 survey sites, qmee, inboxpounds, streetbees to name a few.I use Shopmium where you can get up to 100% cashback on shopping.I use Shoppix, where you can use the same receipts as Shopmium.I download all the money saving apps, sign up to any great promotional deals etc.I also do as many competitions as I can that are free.I spend around 10 hours a week signing up,doing, surveys, using cashback apps etc and it makes/saves a hell of a lot of money over the year.
http://onelink.to/streetbees with referral code 73773X is a good place to start if you are new to surveys plus https://www.inboxpounds.co.uk

Lizzytizzy · 07/09/2022 15:02

I joined streetbees, and have been doing a bit here and there, but I have done better with qmee surveys.I find it easier to qualify for surveys and there are more things to do.

I have done matched betting in the past. I started with about £20 and made £4000 in around a year before I got gubbed by most of the bookies. If you learn the technique of doing it, it is impossible to lose money. When I stopped matched betting I started doing casino offers instead and have made nearly £17000 since last April. Casino is more volatile though so you can lose money doing it.

@EmmaC78 can I ask which software you use? I did the sign-ups via PA and made £600 but closed my membership as I just couldn’t find the time to sit down and watch videos and learn about what comes after sign-ups. I want to get started on Casino but not sure whether to go with oddsmonkey or PA again? Or is there another you could recommend?

For casino offer I subscribe to Team Casino. I think it works out at about £10 a month and is well worth it. I just work my way through the offers on there each day.

When I was match betting I used Team Profit which was free then so i just did whatever offers were on there. I have not done much MB in a while so not sure which one is the best option now.

ItsWrittenintheStars · 02/10/2022 21:27

@EmmaC78 that’s great, thank you. I’ve heard good things about Team Casino so will look into it.

Lollybolly · 11/10/2022 20:47

I am going to look into Team Casino too, thanks for tip.
