Solar panels

Hi, can I have some advice please? With the rising cost of living, I am wondering why people are not getting solar panels installed? Am I missing something? We don't have much savings, but if the price cap is £6k, would it cost much more to install solar for a 4 bed house?
Any explanations gratefully received. Many thanks.

It is excellent and over the summer have been basically just paying very little- around £30-£40 a month actual usage whilst building up a large energy account credit for the winter months

im confused about this - why are you paying £30-40 in the summer - surely with a battery you can just make all y0ur own electric and use it, with our taking any from the grid?

and why would you sell the electric at 4p when you'd have to pay 27p to buy it from the utility company

im missing something here?

A fee things really

we Still have to pay the standing charge,
and even in summer on cloudy says we can use more than we produce, although not alot.
and the battery output to the home has a maximum discharge power of 2500w, so if an appliance is using more than that, for example my heat pump is making hot water, it will draw from the grid any excess above that. Or if the car is using up all of the battery discharge on the evening and someone sticks the microwave on etc.

Some days you make so much excess it that fills the battery to 100% and thats when it feeds back to the grid, you can be paid for that excess generation, its called smart export guarantee tariff (SEG) but it is not generous, octopus offers 4.2p, other energy companies around the same. The older feed in tarif which is not available to new customers was much more generous than that I gather, but yes that does feel like a right swindle on their part considering how much they charge.

There's no need to be guessing how much it will cost. If you speak to an MCS registered installer they will provide you with a quote and an estimation of how long it will take to recoup the cost.
