Sky and universal credit saving

Avidreader12 · 16/08/2022 08:13

I came across a sky offer of broadband for 20 a month for 18 months for those on universal credit but you have to be a sky broadband customer already. Its there social tariff. With the cost of living it could save people on their monthly bills. Before people say broadband is a luxury many people need it for work, school, everyday banking etc. Has anyone else got universal credit tips that aren’t widely advertised?

Most broadband providers have a social tariff, it's just not advertised.
Also water company's have one.
I was paying £26 a month, now I pay £5.
Only condition is that you don't suddenly up your usage beyond what is reasonable. (You can still fill your paddling pool!)

Moneysaving Expert lists what is available:

The government Help to Save account pays a 50% bonus on the maximum balance achieved. Would be a good place to save some of the cost of living money people are entitled to.

Also look at what your local council is offering. A relative of mine gets DLA due to autism and they have a card that allows discounted entry to council run attractions and swimming etc.

If you're struggling with energy costs, there are charitable funds that you can apply to for help:

But I disagree about these things not being 'advertised' they're all mentioned fairly regularly in the MSE weekly newsletter, that's a really valuable resource.
