Proper bank account for 16 year old and 15 year old? Does it exist

Looking for a bank account for a 16-year-old (and possibly a 15 year-old) that runs like a proper bank account. We want the bank account to be somewhere where money can be electronically transferred to but also where the account holder is able to make electronic payments either online or by telephone banking - we do not want an account where you have to physically go into the branch to move money or pay for anything and a debit card is not sufficient either?

Does anyone know an account that fits the bill?
Thank you.

I’m actually surprised you’ve got to 16 without one - all my 14yo’s friendships have been tapping their contactless cards and checking balances on line for over a year!

TSB do a really good young persons account for 11-19 year olds would recommend.

Of course there is such a thing..my kids have had accounts with debit cards and the ability to make online transfers like any current account.
Not sure why you would think it was at all unusual.i am surprised that your children have got to 15 and 16 without having a proper bank account. All the kids I know have had a current account since very early teens at the latest

Any bank will do that op. My dcs have accounts at Lloyd's.

Don't all banks offer this from age 11?

Confused How do they buy things? Mine have had Barclays accounts since they were eleven and use the app on a regular basis to manage their money. They now use Apple Pay rather than the debit cards as it's more secure.

My two have had Bank of Scotland accounts with cards and online banking for the last couple of years. There will be the same account available from Halifax and Lloyds. We had to go to a branch to do the paperwork to open it, but they run the accounts themselves online, no need to go into a branch ever!

What's missing from the accounts you've looked at? Is there something that standard current accounts don't allow that you want?

DC has had a HSBC account since he was 12. No overdraft but he has online access and could do everything you describe. After he turned 18, it became his normal current account

DD just had a normal current account at Santander, works just the same as any other current account with online banking, contactless, ApplePay etc.
