Is this payplan scheme detrimental to your credit score?

I have a good credit rating but a lot of credit card debt - would it be suitable for me?

Nutcracker · 30/11/2004 20:36

Ahh right i see.

Well i guess they will catch up with me eventually then.
Believe me if i had the money to pay them i would, but until then, they will have to wait, when they find me that is.

Nutcracker, out of interest did you do a moonlight flit?I think I would always be looking over my shoulder

Nutcracker · 30/11/2004 20:49

Well not exactly.

What happened was that our house was repossed and we left to move into privatly rented accomodation. As our rent was actually more than our old mortgage we really couldn't afford to start repaying any of the debts. For the 6mths we were at the house i lived on the edge of my nerves, expecting every knock at the door to be someone wanting money.
Anyway, after 6mths we moved again and i relaxed a little bit as we had secuirty entrances so i knew if anyone came i didn't have to let them in, but it wasa still very worrying.
My credit card company found me and claimed their debt back and the old house sold at a loss (never ever understood that) and they tried to claim their money but we just kept saying we couldn't pay and obviously we have now moved again.

I do sometimes feel really bad about it all, afterall other people have to pay back what they owe, but i know that i would love nothing more than to be able to pay off everyone i owe, but it's just not gonna happen unless i win the lotto.
If anymore find me then that is fine, i will set up a payment plan and sort it out, but i refuse to live in fear of it, as it was only a few hundred pounds in each case, not thousands.

When we moved to the last property we owed over 1500 in old council tax and i am very proud of myself for clearing that in 2 years. To me that was much more important than paying off a catalouge.

nutty similar thing to us then. we had to sell our old flat due to debts etc. think we cleared most of them with thwe proceeds from the sale, but am sure there is a few hundred quid floating about somewhere.

We cleared over £20k of debts with the sale of the flat as we didnt want it to be repossessed. we were meant to be moving to milton keynes after that to a cheaper 4 bed house but the mortga company wouldnt agree to it as the flat was worth more to them equity wise. says a lot doesnt it. we also privatly rented, was over twice what our mortgae was but paid a year up front.

I wanted dp to sell the house before it was repossed but he arsed about and left it too late.

I will never have a mortgage now i shouldn't think and neither will dp, but that doesn't bother me as obviously we have this house now (although i did think about moving the other day ).

It's all we can manage to eat and pay the rent some months so i have a quite a lax attitude to debt now. If i have it they can have it, when i have seen to my rent, bills, clothes food etc. If i haven't got it they can't have it.

know what u mean. this is gonna sound awful i know, but because both my dd's get high rate DLA care, it has boosted our other benefits. its only because of this i am able to clear my debts and actually treat my girls to a nice life. before dd1 was awarded it, dh fell seriously ill, i was pregnant so we had to go on benefits. (this was after sale of the flat). we were surviving on about 130 a week. some of that had to go towards rent as by that point the rent we had paid up front had run out, and the rent benefit didnt cover it all. it was complete shite. fortuntaly dh credit cards had payemtn protection and they actually paid out as well. his perscription were crippling us for a while as the DSS dragged their heels for 4 weeks and we had £100 of perscription charges. we had to get reciepts and claim them back when the finally awarded income support.
