Ideas to earn extra money at home

TaraW20 · 03/08/2022 12:52

Hey I was wondering if anyone has any ways of earning some extra money from home.
I am unable to work during the day as we have no available childcare near by so I am home with two children but feel so guilty about not contributing.

Any ideas welcome 😊

Could you work evenings or weekends and your partner can look after the kids?

RomeoOscarXrayIndigoEcho · 03/08/2022 19:46

You shouldn't feel guilty.

You are absolutely contributing by caring for two children

What would the equivalent cost of care be in your area? That's your contribution. Never mind anything else you might do. (Cooking, cleaning, laundry etc)

Wanting to add income to the family budget is probably a good thing given the economic circumstances

BUT never feel guilty that you aren't contributing.

Have you been on the Earn £10 A Day threads? I do this work from home with the kids (5 and 3) playing or watching telly next to me. It's flexible, I'm helping with the family income and don't need to spend out on additional childcare.

I have looked at it but it seems so difficult or am I over thinking it all?
Are you able to make the £10 a day?

I'm averaging about £500 a month at the moment - I've earnt £27.33 today in just under 2.5 hours. It is absolutely doable so well worth spending an hour or two with a cup of tea reading the threads, and seeing what takes your fancy.

rabbitcarrot · 05/08/2022 18:42

Can you do some youtube, vlog, fashion haul all those sort of thing? just knew a single mum she got no childcare help from anyone, then she started to do some youtube, vlog some childcare life, cooking, weekend life, school run, she got 20K subscribe now. She can earn a decent full time office job salary from that.
Don't need much skill, just need feel comfortable with talking to camera😁

Audio typing?

Poppins17 · 09/08/2022 08:18

I currently have 3 jobs, one of which is doing some social media marketing for a local small business. They pay me £10 p/h and I can work whatever hours I choose - they ideally would like 5 per week but some months I don’t manage that. If you can work Facebook/ Instagram it’s an easy job. Good luck!

gotelltheoldmandowntheroad · 09/08/2022 09:31

You are at home with two children, is that not your contribution? Who else would do that? Would you have to pay them? Would the children rather be with you?

@gotelltheoldmandowntheroad sorry, my notifications are playing up so I doesn't realise you'd asked me a question 🙈 all the details are on the Earn £10 A Day threads in the Money Matters section on here 👍

Sign up for Prolific- it's a bit like a survey site but you answer university research questionnaires. Some of them are actually quite interesting and fun. Unlike the survey sites- where you go through loads of prequalification questions to be rejected anyway- you prequalify for them based on your profile. You need to snap them up when they come in your inbox, I suggest installing the add-on so that your computer (literally) shouts at you when one is available.

You must answer all the profile questions when you set up your account and check regularly to see if they've added any, as it'll help you get studies. Don't worry if it looks like there's nothing- just have your device near you while you're watching telly etc so you're ready to go when it yells at you. I haven't done them in ages but there used to be loads pop up, hopefully it's still the same. Better on a computer/laptop as you can't do all of them on a phone.

My husband made quite a bit while he was unemployed during Covid, it's a bit of a lifesaver. And it's easy. I have a few more up my sleeve, I just need to rack my brains and I'll be back to you!

www.prolific.co/

Here it is! I have a feeling it might be rather quiet atm, because holidays, but it should pick up when term starts if I'm remembering correctly.

shreddednips · 16/08/2022 19:45

Oh and maybe try intellizoom? That will only be a runner if you have a laptop/computer though I think. It involves being filmed trying to find stuff on websites, you have to talk out loud to explain whether it's easy/hard and why etc. It's not difficult but you have to do a practice one to qualify before they send you paid ones. There are also easier ones that involve sorting things into categories.

Used to do quite a few on maternity. The pay isn't fab- between $5 and $8 I think- but they're quick and not unpleasant to do. Takes a while to get paid but they do always pay, to PayPal. I've just checked my email and they send me one to do most days.

Try contacting agencies that specialise in transcribing medico-legal reports / court reports. e.g. www.sterlingtranscription.co.uk/medicolegal-groups/

I can tell you first hand that there is always a huge need for typing in these sectors - huge volumes of medical / psychiatric reports being produced each day. Its a massive industry and it relies on fast, efficient and reliable audiotypists. And they often need cover if typists are sick / on holiday etc. I would contact them with your availability and tell them how many hours you could do each week / what your typing speed is etc.

Raindancer411 · 18/08/2022 00:33

@Snowpaw Thanks, I shall check that out

Are you able to make the £10 a day?

Honestly, I think the best thing to do in that position is something that lays the groundwork for your return to work or future career. Otherwise it’s all a huge effort for little return and no help to your CV.

So maybe something related to what you’ve done before or intend to do next. Doesn’t have to be exact match but something with relevant skills. So things like book-keeping, customer service, lower grade HR, where you can study from home and work remotely too.

Loftyowl · 18/08/2022 17:56

I do online surveys.I use a fair few.I do qmee, streetbees (there is a long streetbees thread in credit crunch),superpayme and inboxpounds. I spend around 2 hours a day doing what I can across the survey sites and usually make around £30 a week.I have joined Appen after reading one of the £10 a day threads, but have only been making around £15 a month with them as so far I haven't qualified for a project, just surveys.

My DD tried to sign up to Prolific in April and is still on the waitlist. She’s heard nothing from
Rev either. Swagbucks isn’t too bad if boring.

Loftyowl · 19/08/2022 09:07

Another good site if you are just getting started with surveys is inboxpounds, you get plenty of surveys and £1 just for signing up.
