So today is the last day to receive the first payment but I've not had it. I put my claim in for uv on the 1st of may and from what ive read i should be entitled to it but now I'm thinking i probably arn't. Has everybody else got there payment?

No I don't think you will because you won't have received a payment from UC between the required assessment period dates. You would have received the payment by now. You would not have received your first payment until around June 7th which doesn't fall into the dates required. You will likely receive the second half of the payment if you carry on claiming, they have not announced the qualifying dates for this yet.

The guidance states that to qualify you must have been entitled to a payment of UC for an assessment period that ended in the period between 26th April to 25th may. Your assessment period would not have ended until 31st may.

Anyone who didn't receive the payment, who thinks they were eligible, have been asked to contact their work coach on their journal. Expect it'll take a while for them to reply too as there will be a lot of people in touch

I’m the same OP.

My first payment for UC was on 2nd June for the assessment period 27th April to 26th May. My understanding was as long as you were entitled to UC during that assessment period you would be entitled to the payment, but maybe I am wrong.

The note I had in my payments for my latest payment suggested the same, it all feels a bit misleading and confusing.

I’ve sent a message in my journal a few days ago but awaiting a response.

YerAWizardHarry · 01/08/2022 02:01

@Mumandscrewed no you needed to have received a payment within the dates

I was disappointed not to get anything either. I had put in a claim before May 25th but my first assessment period ended outside that claim window. I contacted my work coach but their response was literally a cut and paste of the info on the gov website. Basically you had to have received a U.C payment between April 25 and May 25th. Shame for those of us who had a new claim being processed within that time. We should get the second payment in the autumn though.

If you were claiming legacy benefits before switching to UC in that time frame you're still entitled to the first payment. I've read it completely wrong then, I thought if you claimed during that period (as in assessment period) you were entitled rather than having a payment between those dates.

Worriesandwobbles · 03/08/2022 16:02

I think a couple of the newspaper reports had suggested if you submitted a claim within that time period that was later granted, but that was misleading. (I still kept checking my account just in case the money appeared ha). Completely understand they had to make the cut off somewhere, just frustrating for those who were just days outside it.

Worriesandwobbles · 03/08/2022 16:08

I think your assessment period had to end between those 2 dates (you normally get paid a few days after assessment period) so it was pretty much only those already receiving benefits in May and not new claimants after April 26th, if that makes sense.

I think that's true for DLA etc, where you then get a back-payment, but not UC, where you needed a payment in the period given.
