Life Insurance and Mental Health disclosure

Apologies in wrong topic.

I have been turned down for life insurance and would be grateful for advice on providers who may be more williing to consider.
In October 2020 I was diagnosed with moderate anxiety and depression via the six week course (Talking Therapy) offered by my local doctors and advised my symptoms too severe for that course - and I arranged to see a counsellor privately who has been helpful. I was prescribed some ADs, but felt so much better with the counsellor that I have not felt the need to go back on them.

I disclosed this to Aviva (having been recommended via an independent insurance broker) and they have turned me down saying that my disclosure of anxiety and depression and an outstanding pre-diabetes review (which has been scheduled for later this month so this may be an admin error) means that they cannot insure me.

This has upset me, it was a bit of a shock. I wondered if anyone could recommend a helpful insurance broker who could guide me through this. I need to sort this for mortgage purposes and my own peace of mind (I am a single parent with three children). I realise that I may need to pay more, but am also on a budget.

I'm surprised you were declined cover. Do you think they might accept you once you have had your diabetes review?

I got insured through Legal and General a few years ago, after disclosing an anxiety diagnosis. It did mean an exclusion for suicide, but that wasn't a great shock.

I'm still with them now having changed my policy when I l moved house at the start of this year. At that point, I'd also had a depression diagnosis in November 2020.

Zurich is worth a try, but you should speak to a broker that pre underwrites you. Speak to Aviva and ask when they would reconsider your application, they may actually be your best bet nos.

Unfortunately this means you now need to declare the refusal. I’d be inclined to complain to the broker they never should have submitted with such a history.

Do not whatever you do try L&G I can almost guarantee they will decline.
