Health cash plans such as Hospital Saturday Fund

I just wanted to let people know about the health cash plan I am a member of, Hospital Saturday Fund. Our monthly premiums are mostly refunded with our annual dental and optician costs. I can then claim for physiotherapy, chiropodist/podiatry, and investigations and appointments with a consultant up to annual limits. There are also maternity allowances and payments in case of certain accidents and other benefits.

You have to let them know any existing health conditions and they exclude these from the cover.

You also get access to Perkbox which gives discounts of a number of supermarkets and other shops (eg 4% of Tesco, 5% of JL).

The plans are at various levels and you can join singly or as a family.

I don’t think a lot of people know about these plans which can save a lot of money. I particularly like being able to arrange screening type appointments/tests which the NHS won’t do.

Please feel free to add any other health cash plans which you recommend.

I'm a member. Have been for years. I've had birth grants and one off lump sums when DC have broken bones (paid into their savings account)

The frankly brilliant thing about HSF is that they don't make a profit as such. Any profits are transferred to their grant making arm and given out (often as sizeable grants) to health charities in the UK.

You have to make sure you claim for everything you are entitled to otherwise you might pay more in premiums than you receive in payments.

Yes, you have to be organised and remember to claim.

I have also just joined Benenden which is £11.90 a month and pays for private diagnostics and treatment if NHS waiting time is over a certain number of weeks. It doesn’t cover cancer, heart or brain diagnostics/treatment and there is some overlap with HSF which I can already claim private diagnostic tests and consultations, but it seems well worth it for the treatment insurance especially with NHS waiting times as they are currently.
