Scared about October.

Reading Martin Lewis and Ofgem's predictions how are you intending to cope with a predicted 64% rise in the price of energy from October?

I can see just lots of people not being able to pay and it causing more issues in some unknown way.

People will just end up in arrears which they will have to try to pay off when things stabilize. I guess these utility companies can't take thousands to court, they will have to wait. Most households will be getting the £400 credited to their electricity account over a number of months which will ease things a little.

£400 will be added to accounts in October which should help to subsidise the costs over winter.

These price increases coincide nicely with me having given up drinking alcohol since February.

I could do that. Partying a lot because of big Birthday. Planning to chill out and drink less and stop eating out.

I feel for a lot of people. It is disgusting how things are.

Lots of people aren't going to be able to pay and it is very worrying. Those who already had no spare money will struggle even more. Those who had a small amount of spare money will see it completely evaporate as it will go on higher bills that are largely unavoidable. Those who had a fairly decent amount of spare money will see it significantly reduced.

Don't forget that food and petrol has also increased hugely in price and there's a limit to how much people can cut back on these things. So people will have to cut back on non essentials, which isn't good news for restaurants, takeaways etc which are already struggling with their own increased costs, which have translated in increased prices, which will then lead to people questioning whether eating out is affordable and value for money, which it's looking less like it is so people will probably go less often, so restaurants will struggle more and possibly go out of business.

People are going to have to try and reduce their usage where they can and also see if they're eligible for any extra help, there are grants available to those on very low incomes.

Is £400 added in October to those whose accounts are on a fixed tariff, as well?

Everybody across the country will get it.

I'm very stressed about it. Currently supporting a family of 5 on only my income as DH had a mental breakdown last year and gave up his business. He's retraining via a government scheme which he started in February and we thought would be qualified and working by now but there have been a lot of hold ups with the company delivering the scheme so he's still not working.

I'm hoping DH will be working come October, so our income will double. If not, we're fucked. I'm so stressed I feel like I want to have a breakdown myself. The government payouts will help, I think we will get the £650 as on tax credits, but not sure yet when it will happen. I fixed our energy last October after my company went bust, so it will more than double this October.

Luckily i can afford to lose a few stone in weight, as all treats will be being cut to basic foods. Especially with my 0% periods ending around the same time on credit cards.
