Child tax credits

I receive child tax credits and have been doing a couple of shifts on the bank at work as and when only 2 hours a week. Do I have to let hrmc know or does it wait until I do my tax credit renewal next year?

Best to report changes in income in order to prevent an overpayment.

Hi everyone
New to mumsnet! Seeking advice ... I'm bad at understanding benefits info and to be honest a lot of financial stuff. I got a new job in which I work more hours and earn an extra approx £300 per month. I told the council and my housing benefit is now reduced by around £200. The petrol and wear and tear on my car will use up the rest of my salary increase. I get child tax credits and working tax credits (single parent two children). I was trying to tell those people I had a salary increase but it seemed like because it's paid in arrears I don't need to tell them yet. But I'm scared when the next renewal comes (I've just had one) and I tell them, they'll reduce what I get. When what I really want is more because I'm working more hours and commuting for no more money at the mo. I did try to research the impact on benefits of my new job before I applied but I struggled to work it out. Plus it is a better job. So I really wanted it.
Has anyone been through similar, with the financial aspect? I'm going to ring Citizens' Advice tomorrow but I thought mumsnet people might have some useful info.
Thank you!

I don't seem to be able to work out how to do it!
