£200 household support fund?

Hi, my friend told me today that household's are being given an extra £200 on 8.07. I did get the £150 last week, I set up the DD for my council tax and applied for the payment online. I've read that households may be entitled to the £200 if claiming UC, which I do but it also mentions to apply. There is 0 info on my local council website about this. It's confusing me. Is it all councils paying this? Is it automatic, as I hadn't known of it before would I be too late to apply? Thank you in advance.

Household support fund administered and allocated local councils all have different criteria and depends on how they want to allocate the money. Worth calling them if nothing online.

The cost of living payment £650 in two payments is a different payment and info on government website. No one seems to know who is actually processing this yet!

The £650 I've found quite straight forward. You'll get the first sum from 14.07 automatically as long as you were entitled to a benefit payment on the eligible dates.
The £150, I thought was only paid if you paid DD only. I've been paid that now. I'll try and get through to the council tomorrow as, honestly, not a single mention of it on their website.

Everyone knows the qualifying criteria Except no one seeks to know who is actually paying the £650!! universal credit processors have been given no guidance!!

The £150 energy rebate administered by council tax isn’t reliant on paying CT by Direct debit. Even those who qualify but who are exempt from Council eg students and care leavers are eligible to receive the payment.

Actually scrub that. They issued more guidance yesterday. It’s just not clear where the payments are coming from!

Never heard of this, just applied. I'm confused about the voucher thing, I vaguely remember getting some at some point this year because I had to download an app. No idea if it was from this scheme or not.

Your best bet is to ring your council tomorrow, because if there is a deadline to apply by, you don't want to miss it.

Councils did free school meals support during covid. Some provided meals to collect/ some provided vouchers/ some provided cash payments via ways. Most councils stopped this after the Easter holidays.

Some councils are choosing to use their new household support budget to provide financial assistance to targeted groups such as free school meals applicants and then border groups as defined by the councils policy (a lot of which is only just being written up and agreed!)

I advised one of my work clients to apply for the household support fund thinking they would give money which she urgently needs for rent shortfall. they send her a £50 Asda voucher , which whilst helpful as she has been relying on food banks, was not as much as expected given her level of hardship. She has no dependent children though.

CornishTiger · 07/07/2022 17:48

@Babyroobs instead of household support fund she needs to apply for Discretionary Housing Payment and Exceptional Hardship Fund for rent shortfall and council tax.

She has applied for DHP and been turned down.
