Hi,like everyone else,I am really struggling with the increased costs of living, bills going up etc.I work the hours I can around my daughter, and can cover my essentials, but never have any spare cash for days out, emergencies etc.If I could make an extra £30 a week or so,this would really, really help.Any ideas where I could start making a bit extra? I have Internet access, time of an evening and a car,so I realise I am lucky, just pitching for ideas really.TIA .

Do you have anyone to look after your child?

Bar work pays quite well. If she’s in bed, it’s an easy task to sit in your home for a few hours.

I know someone who spends about three hours a week helping a disabled woman in her own home. Helps her shower etc...Think it pays about 30 a week.

What are your skills?
What are your other commitments?
What availability do you have?
Can you travel etc or does it have to be from home?
Whereabouts in the country are you?

Hi,thanks for replying.I work 25 hours a week in a shop and do this whilst my 7 year old is at school.I am lucky that I get weekends off and evenings at home.I have a car,but no family nearby.Dd has no contact and I am the sole carer. Was thinking of something I could maybe do from home on the evenings or weekends otherwise I would have to pay a babysitter and don't know if it would be worth working then?

Brilliant long running thread £10 a day with ideas on surveys etc on line.

sleepymum50 · 02/07/2022 15:36

Could you do dog walking, cat feeding. Dog sitting in your own home overnight.

I think if it takes off you might have to get insurance etc. But I used to pay a friend to look after my dog. It was £20/24 hrs. Maybe ask around your neighbours.

Do you have a laptop or PC? You could get an online job a few hours a week. Go to Indeed and type ‘remote’ in the location field search facility.

I would second online surveys. My daughter did quite well from it as a student.

Just saw this link on another thread.

Online surveys, but choose carefully. Prolific is the best IMO but I had to join a waiting list to get on there. Now easily making £40/month, could be a fair bit more if I devoted more time to it. Also Onepoll isn’t bad and Attapoll. Matched betting (but be careful!) also worth a go although harder to maintain over the longer term. Sign up to online market research - things like focus groups etc are much more online now than they used to be. They often pay £50-60 a go. £120/month is pretty doable if you devote a chunk of time each evening. Another idea is reselling. You buy up things in charity shops etc and sell on. You need to know what things will be worth and savvy about finding bargains but there’s a whole community on Instagram about it, looks quite fun to me!

Honestly in this day and age, if you have time and internet access it’s not that hard to make a small pot of money every month. On the threads where people are struggling to make ends meet I always think of surveys, market research etc as a way of finding the ‘extras’ or just balancing the books but you often get your head bitten off for suggesting it even though it’s a very viable small second income. I’ve done this stuff for years since I was a student and always quite enjoyed it.

Thankyou everyone for your suggestions and help.So far,I have been through all the money threads and got some great ideas.I have signed up to qmee and streetbees for survey sites and will have a look at Prolific and attapoll.I reckon with a bit of time invested when my Dd is in bed etc that I should be able to make a fair amount of money to help out with just the little things and save up a bit of a cushion, fingers crossed. Thanks for the suggestions.😘

If you have a car why don’t u do pizza delivery’s local … my friend gets £80 a night and a free takeaway at the end
then you can take your daughter with you :) x

Sodapop1980 · 04/07/2022 08:56

That's a good idea, thankyou.Do you think it is better to work for a restaurant or do deliveroo/uber? I know some people from where I work do deliveroo and they do it after/before work.

The only thing is with being a delivery driver is changing your car insurance to cover for business use and some insurers charge a lot for this ☹️

Sodapop1980 · 04/07/2022 15:33

Thanks, will check out how much it would cost for me to add business insurance to my policy and see if it would be worthwhile.
