Ex owes me money for years - advice on how to claim it back

I leant my ex money, and the mojority of it has been paid back, and up until Sunday past, there was £700 outstanding.

He visited my place of work (didnt know I worked there - his face was a picture when he saw me) and he agreed to "sort me out" that day. He withdrew £200 from the cash machine (his limit) and handed it to me, and then we went to his car so he could find his cheque book...which wasnt in his car

He promised to leave a cheque in the following day, but then texted me to say he couldnt find the cheque book and had just ordered a new one.

I texted back to say I would accept a cheque from someone else or a bankers draft, or, of course money. No reply.

Nothing the following day either.

I called the place he told me he worked, but they have no record of him. I have no written proof that he owes me the money, except for emails from last August full of promises to pay me back in October when he got his bonus/payrise.

I know where his mum and step dad used to live (not sure if they still do).

Anyone know if emails are enough evidence to threaten court action? If so, would handing the claim paperwork to his parents be enough, or would I need to find his home? Could I include any court fees in the claim?

He has been lying to me for years (including impersonating other people on here and to try to break up me and my new partner) and Im fed up. Please can anyone give any advice??
