How can I raise £685 fairly speedy, legally!?

We have found a place that sounds perfect for us to move to.

Lower rent, long term let, bigger...

BUT - our tenancy doesn't expire until march and I don't think they will hold off two months for us, so we most likely need a rent overlap if we want this place (seeing it tomorrow).

We are already on a tight budget anyway, so basic cut back savings are minimal. The deposit I was going to credit card as we can pay it off as soon as we get the deposit back on this place iyswim.

How can we raise a bulk of money fast? Otherwise it is beg, borrow and steal

have you got anything you can sell?

FlameNFurter · 15/01/2008 12:46

Not really sure tbh. Might get £100 for the fiesta

Have you thought about asking to end your tenancy early?

FlllightAttendant · 15/01/2008 13:10

Social security loan? Sorry not sure what your circs are. You might qualify if you get certain benefits. Could then pay it back over a longer period...

FlameNFurter · 15/01/2008 13:14

They have been really insistent on us always having a 6 month/12 month tenancy (not just a rolling one), a guarantor etc, so I can't see them letting us out early, even if it is only one month. The last tenant messed them about, which I think is why they are so set on it all being right with us

I'm wary of a loan - we're already paying off a loan and the end of a credit card, and I hate the worry of debts We will do a loan if we absolutely have to.

Anyone wanna buy a hell of a lot of nappies?

tbh, I'd just move. Give them the notice and move in to the new place. What are they going to do? Lock you in your house until you pay the 2 months rent?

Once you've moved you can see whether they ask you for the money, don't offer it - they may not ask for it, if they get another tenant in.

But if they do, then you can make them an offer, something affordable. They're likely to take it as it's not worth their while to take you to court, when a court will just look at your income and exps and agree to your paying whatever, iyswim!

is is private landlord?
do you know anyone who will want your place?
if you have prospective tenant for them it might help?
its worth speaking to them at least...

FlameNFurter · 15/01/2008 13:20

They can take my mum to court for the money - she is guarantor. I can't put her through the worry of it all.

I think we'll look at the place tomorrow, and then call the landlord and see if we can get out early.

It's weird - I love my little house, but this has felt right from the moment DH called me to say about it.

i'll ask around friends and see if they know anyone who might want this place. I know a couple wanting to move, but I think they are buying.

But surely you can still serve notice on your contract?

SpeccieSeccie · 15/01/2008 13:25

Not sure about the legality of moving house but as for quick money - I have never known anyone to make a loss on going to a car boot sale. Gather up and clean any stuff you don't want and offer to take any stuff off your naieghbours'/friends' hands too. Seek out local car boot sale and watch the cash roll in. OK, I doubt this'll come to £700 but you might get into three figures and it'll make life easier when you come to move as you'll have less stuff.

TigerFeet · 15/01/2008 13:25

can you consolidate (god I hate that word!!) all your loans/creditcards into one loan and borrow the extra on top?

mummyvontummy · 15/01/2008 14:15

Maybe the people that are wanting to buy may want a place just for a month while they find somewhere else? I had this prob with this house and got a loan in the end-my landlady tried to EXTEND my tenancy agreement once I gave her 2 months notice-pick through your tenancy with a fine tooth comb-it may say you just need to give a month's notice when moving out, it may not say that you have to wait until the end of the tenancy xx

FlameNFurter · 15/01/2008 14:17

I have been speaking to my mum, and she is sure that between us we can raise the money

I am goign to be sooo disappointed if the place is a let down aren't I?

EXTNED your tenancy?? HOW?

OP posts:
mummyvontummy · 15/01/2008 14:31

She was mental-she said that I could only give notice once the tenancy ended, so she needed to add another two months on to the end-highly illegal and unfounded, don't worry!
Chin up, the place will be FABULOUS!! And if it isn't you know that your current home is the best. Don't forget to let us know-we want pics and everything!! xxxx
